Hey Phil, is your Exiges still VERY LOUD?! I remember following you through the tunnel on the Susten and my chest cavity was vibrating!

Really looking forward to this again smile
Phil's Exige is fantastic and not only does it make a decent noise but it also turns into hairpins with a frustrating crispness where I need to attempt all sorts of trail or left-foot braking trickery to stop my poor elise understeering straight ahead.

Is there a website with the status of the Swiss mountain passes? As the ones I used years ago don't exist anymore and searching on the web is drawing up blanks.

Else if you local PHers could let me know on the open status of the central passes around Andermatt as I am planning to pass through that way on Wednesday on my way to Italy.

Cheers guys!

Andrew, did we tell you that it was 30 degrees on Saturday? How is the weather in congested Blighty?

You're still welcome to join us. I'm sure some of the folks coming from the UK can give you a lift wink

On Saturday I was flying back from the US after seeing my 288 GTO undergoing an inspection. A car you can buy and run in the civilised world smile

Very nice, wish we were going to see / hear that on the run.

We spent Saturday in SG with a Rapide. A car that enables one to take children along for the ride without having to take 2 cars.

I'm hoping for a final summer with the Elise but can see a change on the horizon.

288GTO - super wow! Is that going to accompany your 599GTO? If so are you going to make the collection a GTO hattrick?

Utterly off topic for this wonderful thread (sorry!), but what are the issues with registering a 288 GTO in Switzerland? I rememebr Schnellmann saying something similar about the F40- virtually impossible to import and register one- are the Swiss variants that different? Or is it just the authorities trying to make more money?

Can anyone tell that I've been dreaming again after browsing through Autoscout?! smile

My understanding from looking at importing and registering cars in the past is that you have two problems. Firstly you need the original registration documents for when the car was first registered for use (in the first country it was registered). For older cars that can be very difficult. Secondly the car has to conform with Swiss specification. That can involve a lot of time and expense. Particularly difficult for models that may not have been specifically homogulated for use in Switzerland because of low numbers produced, such as the F40. Then you have import VAT and duty.

In summary, for new cars with an EU certificate of conformity and where you get VAT free export from country in which you buy car then it can be done with only a medium amount of hassle. Old and or modified cars can be problematic.

Sure. But depends upon the weather forecast. If wet I'll be in the 993.

I read in 20 Minuten this mrning that the Gotthard pass is now open; the Furka and Grimsel passes are due to open at the beginning of June. HOWEVER, at this stage, the Susten is only due to reopen on 22nd June. Not so good!

Hopefully we'll have some hot sunny weather in the next couple of weeks...

Didn't AndrewD report driving on most of the Susten pass when it was still officialy closed last year? IIRC, there was not other traffic driving

He did indeed. I'm positive the Susten will be open when we are there but I am still working on the route and will be updating this thread next week with a who's coming list and the route will be emailled out to everyone.

Sorry it's taking so long this year but I have just had to sit a bunch of exams in German and they were a bh! Rant over. Normal service will be resumed post haste.

Evening all,

I would be interested in joining in. Let's see what the route/program is but I am new to CH having just arrived last November and my 964RS has therefore not been out too much so far.
Looking forward to some serious alpenfahrt as ze germans say!!!

I am based in Lutry (Vaud). Any other members in that neck of the wood?

Cheers
