roop, enjoy!!! You'll probably find it cheaper living in the french side!!! and beware of all the gatsos on the Lausanne-Geneva Autobahn!! And BTW if you've a spoiler on your Honda, you may well have to remove it if you reregister with a swiss numberplate!
keep it sunny side up...
AND you'll find there are other madcap hawker hunter fans in Switzerland...if you look at this months Christophorus (german Porsche mag) you'll see fantastic photos of hunters and carrera GTs..... all taken in Tessin!!!

Thanks for the info...! Likely be based in Vaud. Looking at Rolle which seems like a nice place. Somewhat dependent on job situation though.

Both Honda and Z4 may come with us initially for convenience but will be returned to the UK to be sold. Replacement will be CH sourced do-it-all box of some description. Plan is to live there on a permanent basis, obtain residency etc so no point having a car with the steering wheel on the wrong side I guess.

I understand Hunter fans abound in CH - they have some nice examples still flying although I don't think any are still in active service. Nice to see them appearing in a Porsche magazine though. I expect it made a nice photoshoot

Hunters were in service with the swiss luftwaffe till about 10 years ago, the venoms were mustered out shortly before that. Still one or two fling in Tessin. Apparently they were better for flying aound the mountains than the "new" stuff.

Residency in CH is difficult to come by, there are a lot of hoops to jump through, and remember they are NOT in the EU. If you work for a CH company they'll do the hooping for you (Roche Novartic SwissRe etc...)

Rolle is the place where they experiment with new gatsos in street furniture, the latest here in Basel, looks like a "normal" CCTV camera but is mounted about 4m above the roadway (Mway) and is invisible due to being matt grey on a matt grey gantry with dozens of signs...sneeky barstewards....
Lovely area, within reach of France for cheaper shopping (always),cheaper petrol in CH though.... they actually play rugby there (Genevy, Nyon, Lausanne, la Chaux de Fonds, Avusy), I'm involved with the swiss union so if you need contacts just drop me a line...

PHers are rare in CH but us on the southern border of Germany try to assimilate the swiss, hooning roads abound in CH esp passes (have done 9 in one day nowe targetting 13/14!), but they keep eyes open for stickered cars (I recommended Eurohoon not to!) as they're rabidly green in some uneducated areas...
feel free to mail me through my handle..

You like Hunters, you will love Switerland...

There are a few still flying and you can take passenger rides here...

www.clindailes.ch/f2/03/vols_01_fr.html

But if you have your own already.....

Rolle is indeed a very nice place (15mins from me) although the express trains don't stop there.

Fernando Alonso has just bought a small place nearby and by small, I mean a 3 or 4 bedroom house. Not quite up there with my other neighbour. Mr Schumacher in nearby Gland...

There is a little grass strip nearby at Prangins too but it's probablz a bit short for the Hunter..

Hi MB,

Are you in Gland...? My dad moved there some time ago and lives next door to Schumi.

I know the airfield you mean. Hunter's aren't good on short grass strips. Need a Jaguar or something for that...! Thanks for the link to the Hunter site - very interesting.

I didn't know that Alonso had got a gaff there as well. I better buy before the proprtty prices go up...!

Thanks for the heads-up on the express. Does it stop at Gland or just Nyon...? Where's the nearest stop the other side of Rolle...?

Cheers,

Rup

Morges is the express stop on the Lausanne side of Rolle, but then again, it's 15kms farther out and it actually takes the same time circa <30mins but the downside is that there are only two per hour from Rolle as opposed to 4+ per hour from Morges or Nyon.

www.sbb.ch/en/index.htm

Rolle is very nice but they need to sort out the infrastructure a bit as it is growing fast and things like creches, schools & hospitals need to catch up.

I live 5kms inland from Gland and take the train most of the time but will drive more in the future but I'll try to get into the centre of Geneva by 8am to avoid the worst of the rush hour.

Good luck!
