Has anyone ever taken a standard hire car on track? Perhaps a Zipcar?
It has been done, but will obviously be against the terms of your rental agreement - and I'd imagine if you crashed it the hire company will want not only the cost of their car back but also a fair chunk for lost earnings of the car, admin fees etc.

I remember one evening when a touring car driver took a hired ford focus around Knockhill on a track night in the days before his first race there...if I remember correctly he embarrassed a good few of the track day regulars in substantially more capable cars too biggrin

There's a collection of track day cars for hire bundled together here: www.trackdays.co.uk/car_hire_experience/. As has been said previously - Share the car with a few people and it takes the sting out of the tale. I think you just have to make sure who ever you are sharing it with has the money to cover the deposit should they be the unlucky one to wedge it under the tyre wall!

I think the best value out there my a mile is Palmersport.

You get to drive some amazing machines, absolutely FLAT out. Excellent instructors, superb facilities/food etc...

and you have the added excitement of the competition aspect to the day.

I've done it over 20 times... never get bored.

Just awesome!
