Back at Goodwood this weekend in my M2 for Players Classic show - looking forward to see what it can VS my old M3

Here I managed four low 1:26 on the trot with best average of 107mph a lap

I'd say 200hp with road tyres so be circa 1:35 ?
Great time and great driving, car looks epic too!

Had a look at some of your other vids, almost everyone I know including myself has had issues at some point with that same Westfield Radical clone with no engine cover rofl

Interesting, I take a similar line but a bit more to the left than the Caterham. Leyton from RMA is more towards the middle.

The reason why I do it is with no ABS I want the hard braking done in as straight a line as possible as haven't really got the space to deal with a lock up or sideways moment due trying to brake while going slightly right so it's a self preservation line rofl . Perhaps similar thoughts in a non-abs Caterham.

I do something similar I think - from around the middle, brake in a straight line but aiming at the 3rd corner marker on the left; a fairly late turn-in and which misses the bump on the first apex.

It means I brake later than most into Madgwick but no idea if it's any faster overall laugh

Great fun either way, I love Goodwood.

Always loved that M3 of yours Sam smile Very cool car, and a 1:26 is a very respectable time indeed!

How are you finding the M2 generally by comparison to the M3?

Also, what spec was the M3 in that video?

Assuming it was at the very least:

big brakes front and rear
Track Tyres?
4.1 Final Drive, judging from the gear choice for most of the corners?

Joe Achilles throwing down the gauntlet and inviting people to beat his 1:25.4, I've got 1.3 seconds to try to find hehe

He's done a 1.23 on Cup tyres recently too. Unfortunately, these M3's are heavy and the tyres wouldn't last more than a few back to back laps at that pace. As you know yourself, our cars will do hundreds of laps at sub 1.30 pace and have no issues.

Inviting people to try to beat it is risky too. Goodwood is unforgiving if you get it wrong.

As well as the whole point of track days being to enjoy oneself and put the stopwatch away...

Track day organisers are risking their insurance cover if they have a customer like this who is encouraging competitiveness amongst other participants in such a public fashion.

No direct timing but can do post event from GPS logging.

But in any case I've been through the Terms and Conditions of trackdays booked direct through Goodwood and nothing in there about not timing so depends on the organiser.

Thank you, M3 is living it up in Barbados now.

M2 on road tyres has matches M3 slick lap time every time so far, but definitely more time to come from the M2.
Get a huge punch out the corner from the extra torque & 295 rears but loose time in braking zones with tweaked stock brakes & still haven't nailed turn-in, still some setup to be done there.

M3 was AP 5000R front brakes with stock rears - AR1 tyres 265 squared - 4.1 final drive.

Should be a build thread somewhere on here.

I nearly became victim to that unforgiving

I was at Goodwood on Saturday for the first time in my e46 M3, sadly I only got c25 laps due to it being a car show rather than a trackday. I found it a really tricky track to learn, so I definitely need to go back and see what the car can really do. T1 doesn't even need a brake, with more seat time it might even be flat smokin

Not bad but I reckon Kellerman would shave at least a couple of seconds off that time, even with an injured arm wink

It's silly to compare against someone as fast as Kellerman though, we're just mere mortals

I'm very slow with a 1.50 in a gt86 sprinting from a standing start in near stock car. Similar cars in class get down to 1.37 s2000 and fiesta STs

I love Goodwood, even in a low powered car you can carry some serious speed.

Some interesting comparisons here, just to add a bit of variety:

MX5 NC, standard power with suspension and brakes - 1:35
Megane 250 Cup, 300bhp, suspension and brakes - 1:31
M4, standard other than pads - 1:27

Went back to Goodwood last month and knocked 1.3 sec off previous best to a 1:25.6

Lotus Elige

230bhp on Nankang AR1s.

Happy with that, bit faster than a GT3 champion in an Exige V6 Cup (granted with passenger).

Have you converted that into a hovercraft?

It's pretty much the inverse of a hovercraft, unless you're referring to how well it rides bumps, in which case I have Nitron and Spires Technologies to thank for that.
