Pit lights are only for track numbers and condition, not for telling you track is clear. People need to take responsibility for their actions and the whole thing will be safer. However driving at speed can be dangerous and bad things happen.

If someone wants to post up the Spa Evl/M3 pit exit crash that will stir a few extra feelings.
i bow to your superior knowledge then,, but i have been held by the marshal when there is on coming traffic and the lights have been red, then when given the all clear by the marshal they have been turned to green but yes,you are correct you are responsible for your own actions and the safety of others and yourself.
Similarly I have been held by marshalls because of approaching traffic so they are doing more than counting wrist bands.

However they could not have anticipated that a car would spear across the pit exit road.

I have also seen an Evo have that kind of accident there, did not roll but ended up on a bollard on the road between the pits and car park.

At a recent Bedford event, the guy on the exit only checked wristbands/lights/windows, you'd get a nod and he'd be back to chatting.

If you do do Bedford make sure its on the GT circuit as i think this is without doubt the best one to do and it is also the longest too and im sure you wont be disappointed.

At many tracks the Marshalls will try to let you out into gaps if they can and and especially of the exit is slightly dodgy like Donny. But once they have let you go, there is only one person who is responsible for the safe entry onto the circuit.

It was just your statement that the Marshall gave you the "all clear". You don't get an all clear, they just try to help.

im sorry but when the marshal tells you to wait and then says its ok to enter the track isnt that being given the all clear or am i missing something confused but i will add that it is still your responsibility to enter the track safely regardless of what the marshal is telling you, plus as far as im concerned the marshals are to be obeyed otherwise anarchy would reign on the track i.e ignoring flags and when and when not to enter the track etc and yes they do try to help and they usually do a fantastic job.
