TBF, until/unless you deem yourself expert, there's always something to learn, as well as immense enjoyment, in taking a passenger ride with a willing and able pilot.
For me, it's about lapping at a reasonable pace without risking my wallet or anyone else's. I've done around 50-60 laps so still class myself as a novice.

Progressing from an E36 318iS, E36 328i and now an M3, each car has taught me different things especially as speeds have gone up. My poly bushed, coilover enhanced, RSR tyred 328 did a respectable 8.53, my M3 just 8.52 as at that stage it was new to me and completely standard.

Traffic and closures affect your lapping hugely when you're only there for a weekend. I'm sure now I've got decent brakes, fresh dampers and Cup 2s, I'll be knocking on the door of 8.30, but I'm not fussed. Sub 9 is plenty fast enough for anyone with a healthy respect for the track.

The main thing to remember is there are no prizes other than going home in one piece, with happy memories and hopefully new friends!

Bring it on! driving

I've promised myself never to even look at the times, just to begin to think about the bits of the track better. biggrin

I see a lot of risks for novices like myself, with less than 10 laps under my belt (had brake issues last year). I think it's be easy to chase time through one section and suddenly 'forget' yourself in another that you already knew. Or to improve on one section and therefore hit another with more speed and get wrong-footed.

I have driven 140 laps and I occasionally read my time from video footage, but I never ever ever "go" for a time. That's when mistakes happen.

This is why I thought it was slightly irresponsible for Sabine and Rory to try "beating" supercars on Top Gear.

I sort of agree, but it was for telly and you and I and anyone else who's done even so much as a lap of the 'Ring know the score.

Forget what car you or anyone else is driving. Experience and line knowledge is king, plus cars are seldom stock standard anyway. Just look at the Pinderwagen!

I collect my new Lotus 3-Eleven tomorrow. Currently deliberating whether to take it to the Ring in August (Destination Nurburgring 2 day event). Might struggle to get on and off the Eurotunnel. Plus, if it rains...

Why not trailer it over? That would be awesome!

Unless you've maybe got another car to use on the ring?

I'm taking the McLaren 12C to the Ring in April (Circuit Days) and May (Destination Nurburgring) so wanted to take the 3-11 instead in August. I don't want the bother and expense of a trailer if I'm only going to take the 311 on one foreign trip a year. First World problems!

^^^ This!!

You don't seriously think the best (petrolly) place on the planet would be forcing Tesco cheap stuff on us do ya? wink

Regardless, if this is your first trip ever in your own car, I don't think super quality fuel is your biggest concern. Take it steady, DON'T bother with timing yourself (film it by all means, but don't check it till the night) or you'll chase yourself and potentially have an off...

Meet people in the car park, go out as a passenger with someone who's been (at least a few times) before, then go steady, keep right when anything catches you, and try to enjoy yourself!!!
Hiya

the car is quite highly modified and its more the fact its had its ecu programed on V-Power so would like to try keep it to that. Don't intend to be breaking any records though. More the fact a lot of money has been spent on the car and id like to put the right fuel in it.

Bit Ocd like that. Will be their this weekend if any other are going

It will be fine on 99 ron from other manufacturers. My Evo X is tuned to a paltry 481 bhp on the stock ecu and that runs fine on both V Power and Momentum. Granted I've only ever put Momentum in it once as it was the nearest garage and I was running on fumes. Going by the spec on your Evo it shoudn't be an issue.

Looks like a little cloud for 11th, hope this changes for the better for you guys!

Though, to be fair, a little cloud is far better than showers or rain...

Indeed, last years DN14 was a mixed bag from some accounts - check out this thread:

I've been there in June before where it's been 10deg, foggy and then rain all day, followed by bright blue sky and 18deg the next day! But thankfully at the moment, the general trend of weather seems fair.....I've got everything crossed!

I'm praying for dry weather when I get there on the 18th of April! Just getting the last few upgrades done to the car and a fresh set of AD08R tyres.

Does anyone know what the rules are for cameras? Will I be alright with a windscreen mount for my GoPro clone?
