My car's quite light so maybe heavier cars take more punishment.
triple the weight, raise the CoG by a foot, reduce the front camber and it's no surprise that mass production cars roll onto the tyre's shoulder on hard cornering causing particularly heavy wear on the very edge of the tread. I had planned to take the Zenos, but on the day I couldn't, so used the BMW instead. I chose to run the PSI a bit low, but I hadn't reaslised this would be the result.
Interesting.
Have a similar issue with Conti Sport Contact 2 tyres chunking off on outer edge. I put it down to the fact that they were purchased second hand and only had half of their original tread remaining, plus being at least 3+ years old before we got them. However HustleRussel's comments have me thinking now....as the car is an E36 328 which currently weighs in at 1250ish without driver and passenger.
With that said, we go to Bedford often because its our baseline test track during the development of the car. The tyres did 2 track days, no issues with hitting the entry apex and exit curbs of the new chicane. However one track day at Donni GP layout showed up notable chunking on the NSR and some visible on the OSR and NSF as well. In the tyre's defence all 3 drivers had a little too much fun exiting the Melbourne loop sideways which might be a contributor to the worst of the tyres.
This time we are going with nearly new Conti 5's, so will see how and for how long these fare.
