The track day section of this site is hopefully a useful reference but it''s not much fun. Anyone got any bright ideas on what might inject some life into it? I''m particularly interested in provoking reader interaction (no point in just being like a magazine when this is a two way medium).

How about a track by track 'talk you round' discussion, much like the F1 johnnies do? F'instance, someone could talk in detail about how they approach and handle each corner -- maybe others might have differing views...?

Strangely I was thinking exactly that. Each track day I go on I browse around to find a circuit map, and if possible some description of a lap, corners, etc. I don't know if it need be copied/reproduced here, but links would be good. The oilypages only cover track day companies etc rather than the tracks themselves. Neil

How’s about getting us some track passes then we can tell everyone how much we enjoyed them and what they were like

Does the autosport track guide exist on the web anywhere? This shows a corner by corner guide to the popular circuits. The other question is - how the hell do you read the guide and perform heel & toe gearchanges at the same time?

bob: I found a web page about the Circuit Guide recently. It seemed to be saying that by paying them "money" they would send me a "hard copy" of the Guide, which I could then read at home, or indeed at the circuit, without the need for a computer. The "price" they quoted was about a quarter of a cheapish track fee, and considerably less than a set of super-sticky tyres. Interesting concept...

The Autosport Circuit Guide is an excellent document. Yes its expensive but there again - its hardly a mass market its produced for. Anything that sells in relatively small numbers requiring that amount of research is necessarily going to be more expensive than would seem right for that amount of paper. I bought my first copy recently and I have found it excellent for understanding the track, find local accomodation, best spectating points etc. Although its clearly just a big Word document that they print out they have to get enough revenue per copy to support its production, distribution etc. Its hard to get revenue from providing information on the 'net. Ted would know more about that...but I don't expect that the Circuit Guide will appear on the 'net any time soon.

Tell me about it. Some of the heavyweights are now charging for content. Free content may seem a mad concept in a few years time...

Idea 1..How about a track guide compiled from in-car pictures? - Autosport guide is great but it's a 2d plan so sometimes difficult relating it to the track at speed. Ideally I suppose a picture taken from inside one car just before turn in, and others in view at apex and exit where possible - sort of where you should be and where you're aiming at. I claim copyright on that idea BTW! AdrianR

Idea 2.. variant on spot the ball. Take some pictures of a track at various points and we can try & put an 'X' where we think the car should be. AdrianR

I think so. The QUALITY of information is all-important..then the Information "Brand". You'll survive Ted because once everyone's got over the 'net being "free" syndrome you'll be able to charge subscriptions - just like a paper magazine. I could create a web-site easily that provides information about general knowledge..but why would anyone trust it..instead they'll PAY to use the Encyclopaedia Brittanica site where the provenance of the information is assured...why..because I could be talking b******s. And I do. Often! Back to the point, though. MPEG videos of laps around circuits would be good. Even better with a red-dot moving around a circuit diagram...
