never been to Abingdon before. Bored of Brands (my local circuit!)
Me, my other half and friend will be going. 2 orange Westfields, a noisy one and a one with silly power. Pop over and say hello smile

Really interesting track for an airfield day, changes in surface grip between different sections and space to experiment on different lines as the grip is not always where you expect it to be.

hi guys, how did you find the layout on Friday?
i've been to abingdon once before (a number of years ago now) but found the layout to be better than i remembered.

I was the guy in the blue civic typeR FK2. First trackday in it and apart from a boost hose blowing off just after 2pm resulting in a 35mph tour of the circuit, it handled things well.
Outter front tyre is chewed up so need to figure out what to do with that before the next track event. not sure if it's just the softness of the Dunlop RT2's, or I need a bit more camber.

Just booked for that day too. I'll be in the Caterham, it's my first track day for several years and my first in this car so I'll be taking it nice and steady smile

Who is best to book Abingdon through - 6th July sounds like a good date for us - first outing in the Clio 172 Cup we bought over the winter.... might bring the spyder too as it's pretty local so no need to share the driving....

I have always booked through MSE. Their organisation on the day is excellent. Can't comment on others though.

Abingdon is Motorsport Events (MSE). Just booked for the 6th July. I'll be there in orange R400D and should be flanked by a green Elise & Orange R300+ if my mates can get their fingers out and book :-). Come and say hello if you are there.

Booked for the 6th July

Will be there in my M3 along with a mate in his 350Z track car.

Looking forward to stretching the car's legs a bit.. the circuit seems very well suited. smile

I'll be there on the 6th of July in my TVR, along with a friend- he has a much faster much prettier TVR and has been contemplating track days so I've told him to take my scruffy one around first and see how he feels about it.

If any better drivers than me wouldn't mind showing him a trick or two and sharing their experiences with him that'd be much appreciated! thumbup

We're both friendly so give us a wave and come over for a chinwag if you spot us before we spot you smile

Ah quiet a few of the 'enemy' then shoot, well from a Westfield owners perspective smile I will be in the slow orange one, with another orange one that cheats with forced induction and one modelled on a bumble bee.

I've been at a couple of stinking hot track days at Abingdon too. On one occasion we sat in stationary traffic on the Oxford by-pass for an hour afterwards, car on trailer and inching up an exit ramp in baking heat. All because of roadworks.

They are good track days, though, and civilised organisers.

Yes it was bloody hot wasn't it!? Great to finally meet you too Steve.

I had a great day despite the heat and I agree MSE did a good job of organising and running the day. I’m planning on booking again for September or October.

Heat was unbelievable! I felt sorry for my car so went pretty easy on it in the end, 4-5 laps maximum at a time. It took it in it's stride to be fair though and even the brakes were fine.. not much fade at all the whole day, although they were pinging away like mad when i came back to the pits even after 2 cool down laps!

Very well organised day, i enjoyed the circuit, especially the high speed penultimate and last corners!

What’s the surface like in terms of loose stones / stone chips / tyre wear?

Thanks.

Mine stuck to the surface like sh!t to a blanket! biggrin Very grippy. Not any loose stones either. Tire wear fairly high, especially in hot conditions.

I've done loads of Abingdon track days (and Hullavington and Keevil) over more than ten years and never had any stone damage. There's loose stones in the paddock and these seem to find their way onto my seat under my arse but the circuit itself is clear. Lineham, for the brief period it was open, was very stony I gather. After a few track days that would have cleared too I'm sure.

That was unbelievably hot. I managed to convince my mate out of my doggy 4 litre TVR with a cleverly engineered gearbox leak and into his VERY fast very pretty 5 litre one- which he promptly spun through the moderately fast right hander after the hairpin hehe

Have to say I was gutted about the change in track layout, I preferred the faster complexes on the old one- and the track surface was pretty poor on that right hander in question. Still a good day though, as ever!
