I've decided I'm gonna try a few track days in 2018.

I've already done a car limits day at North Weald which was fantastic fun but would like to try to get out and about putting some of the suggestions to the test!

Which airfield days would you recommend that are

A) Fun/challenging
B) Good for the beginner
C) likely to offer some sort of coaching?

Doesn't have to be an airfield day - but not having much to hit would be very useful.

Cheers all!

Adam

If your definition of "South" is pretty loose, Javelin run days at RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk.
As above, Bedford is also great for a beginner - plenty of runoff and a long (in GT format), wide track.

Im on a hunt for the same. I would like to do a few cheap and tatty airfield days before hitting the tracks.

I'm based in Hampshire, but can't seem to find any airfield days this year?

What happened to Kevil and Hulavington etc? There used to be loads.

Woodbridge Suffolk was a great airfield track but I believe this has now stopped due to increased military activity

Keevil is now being used by the RAF again, so not available. Hullavington has been sold to Dyson. No more track days there. However, have a look here:

There are days at Lyneham listed, and Abingdon days are likely to be added (they ran them last year).

I just wrote to these guys and they have confirmed that.
Both look good so hope to be there soon!

Correct sadly. Another regiment has now moved in.

100% Bedford.
Long enough to be interesting, decent combination of corners for novice to learn and practice and tons of run off.

Go with Bedford. You generally have to skid across a very large amount of grass before you find anything to hit.

Or pick a track day and build up towards the limit, rather than using coming off as a benchmark for how far you can push it.

This all the way, get instruction and build up your pace. Crashing is optional and usually fairly predictable.

Bedford is deeply average to drive and quite hard for a novice to learn, I can never understand why people flock there.

The catering is awesome. I go for the Stirfry.

I'm looking to do a day at Lyneham later in the year with Motorsport Events. Always loved their Abingdon day sand hoping for the same.

Really good. Nice wide layout in most places with a tight twisty chicane on the way back towards the pit area. I prefer proper circuits and had not bothered with airfield days but doing one at Abingdon with a couple of new to track day mates changed my opinion. There's plenty of videos from people on youtube to watch.

I'm going to Lyneham as I thought it would be fun to take two of my directors from work, who are mild petrolheads, to a track day and show them what it's all about. I would have gone to Abingdon but the Lyneham dates are all Saturdays which makes it easier not having to factor in days off work.

Be nice if they actually got a map of the circuit up.

I’m looking at the May date but I’m waiting for my boss to confirm if he’s free before I book.
