CL RC6 Or XP10

I will need to look to replace the pads on my MR2 Roadster track car after my next track day at Castle Combe on the 23/07/18 so am just thinking what will be the best option .

The car has EBC Yellow stuff pads an they were great at Brands Hatch and are not that expensive and stop the car well ( car is 900 Kg now )

I am looking for something a little better for feel , stopping power and were rate and the car is only driven on the road to get to a track ( and the Nurburgring )

After much reading I think the two below will be my best options .

I can get the Carbon Lorrain RC6 pads front and rear for £ 352 or the Carbotech XP10 come in at £ 433 .

Is there much difference between the two and do people have any thoughts if they have used any of them ?

I would go Carbotech everytime. Are you sure you need the XP10, I would have thought the XP8 would be ok for the weight of an MR2, unless you are putting out monster power??

Having just removed Carbone Lorraine pads from my VX220, I'd never ever trust them - the pad had broken free of the backing plate because of, I assume, corrosion. Apparently only a problem on CL5 pads, but confidence destroying nonetheless.

The car is only 900 Kg but is only for track so would the XP10 not be better than the XP8 or is it to do with the weight of the car as well ?

I had CL5 on my old track car and they were great but I have herd that they are not great if driving all year round on the road and track .

I have used both, the XP10 has better initial bite than the XP8. It has less dust too. Both would work, the XP10 is not as big a jump from the XP8 as people think, I prefer the XP10 on a heavier car. If you like trust and very late braking the 10 will put a smile on your face (when you have ripped your face back from the windscreen LOL)

The choice is yours. XP10's have much more feel and consistency than the other makes IMHO

Yep - fitted by previous owner who dailied the car so the pads saw the wet. I use it for weekends and track only, so the new Mintex will barely see a drop of water.

I track an NC MX5, when I spoke with Carbotech, I was initially looking at the XP10, but they said given the cars weight it was not necessary. I run XP8's and I love them, with decent fluid and stock disks they work every time and work well.

I run XP8's on a MKII turbo and they cope fine! I fitted a new set a couple of weeks ago because, my fronts were pretty much done after about 8 TDs.

I'm currently using a MK1 Clio for track so similar weight and it came with RC6 pads on the front which were fantastic. I normally use a Turbo'd MX5 (currently having some repairs) on which I use Axxis Ultimate pads which again I couldn't fault.

Ive used CL6 and CL5+ pads on a 1300kg e36. The stopping power and consistency is very good in my experience. From cold though there is very little bite, good thing that the track car is only that. Longevity wise I cant say that they last longer than other pads Ive used, typically 600~700 track miles from the CL6 on the front axle, thats with cooling and slightly bigger than std. disks.

Can some of you guys using Carbotech pads advise where in the UK/EU you source yours from? I have been unable to find anything other than US suppliers.

Would be interesting to see how XPxx fair compared with the CL6 compound.
