Nurburgring 2019
Discussion
I've taken insurance with Moris for a coupe of DN events now as I hadn't driven my own car on the ring up to that point as previously I'd rented from RSR. I've done 4 DN days so far with my own car without incident (touch wood!). Driving standards are certainly higher on DN events however traffic is also faster and in some cases a little too aggressive. DN 20 had more stoppages than previous events especially day one, also a few cases of idiots overtaking on the wrong side. It can be a little intimidating taking your own car on there for the first time and trying to learn the track whilst managing faster cars coming up from behind. Instruction is an absolute must in this scenario as an extra set of eyes certainly helps. Having said that its still more likely that you will come undone from a lack of track knowledge or pushing too hard, vehicle to vehicle collisions are very rare. My only real fear is someone dropping fluid or oil on track and arriving on the scene straight after before flags/warnings are deployed. Is it worth paying for insurance to cover this small % risk ? Up to the individual tbh
Hello!
Looking for a bit of advice really..
So..complete novice at this Nürburgring malarky, but my boyfriend has always wanted to go, ideally to take his own car but as this is going to be a surprise i’m not sure how i’ll wangle that one.. anyway..i’m basically trying to organise a trip to the Nürburgring for his birthday in november. Looking for suggestions on places to stay, are cars still available to rent in november, etc?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I would recommend hotel Zur Burg, which is just next to the Nurburgring circuit and opposite Rent-4-Ring, where you can rent a Suzuki Swift (great fun) or a BMW 125i (faster) and other cars. All their cars are race prepared, plus they speak English! Looking for a bit of advice really..

Hotel Zur Burg - https://www.nuerburgring-hotel.de/index.php/en/
Rent-4-Ring - https://www.rent4ring.de/en/
You can search for when the Ring is open to the public here - http://www.nuerburgring.de/en/fans-info/info/openi...
Just remember to search TOURIST DRIVES NORDSCHLEIFE - tourist drives means public opening.

The 2019 TF (public) dates have not been released yet, they'll release dates for the first half of the year anytime between now and the end of feb, dates for the second half of year will be published sometime between march and july. There is no logic as to when ring management will publish the TF calender. Looking for a bit of advice really..

Historically the track is open for TF every weekend of November and the ring might make a full weekday daytime date available, weekday evenings are not available in November.
The track obviously is in eifel mountains so historically the weather turns ever colder the later into November it becomes with an increasing likelihood of snow, to avoid disappointment you may want to consider early November or if his birthday is towards the end of Nov maybe go in September or October.

Ive tracked my car a few times, including the Ring last year on a TF weekend so I'm not put off by the 'own car' thing. My main worry is other drivers and as you pointed out, oil or other fluids. I like to take a passenger as it acts as a handy reality check having someone else's life in your hands. Going solo would potentially be an invitation to push the envelope. I'll leave it a couple of months and make my mind up nearer the time. My track pads arrived today so that'll give me something to mooch over in the meantime. Much excitement!
I've booked onto DN21. Been and go regular but never done a track day at the ring so thought why not. I was about to book the BTG / Circuit days event in April but sold out. Think i will be happy at DN for better standards of driving. Hopefully i wont get in anyones way in my faithful little car

I highly recommend Ringfreaks for car rental. Cool cars and they speak English and are helpful.Looking for a bit of advice really..

I've taken the plunge and booked into the October Circuit Days date, can't wait. Have only driven a couple sedate TF laps in 2017 and ridden 3 laps on a bike back in 2005 so very much looking forward to it. Driving a silver GT86.
I was dithering but Nige's consistent excellent reports pushed me over the edge!
I really hope you aren`t disappointed now ! I was dithering but Nige's consistent excellent reports pushed me over the edge!
I`ve always been honest in my reports so if you`ve read those you will have a very good idea of what to expect when you get there.
Just be aware, once you`ve done a trackday TF seems even busier

Haha! To be honest the TF evenings didn't seem that bad, once you were out there. It was just getting out there with all the track closures.I`ve always been honest in my reports so if you`ve read those you will have a very good idea of what to expect when you get there.

I went last year to DN19 as my first time at the Ring. Absolute hoot and expert organisation. I've signed up to DN21. There seems to be some sort of exhibition on the same day organised by Lidner so all 3 Lidner hotels are unavailable to book rooms in and most others are already looking pretty full as a result, so book soon if you want to be nearby!

I am booked on the Circuit Days day (day day day) on the 14th Oct.
I went in October 2018 to watch , seemed great. don't fancy hooning it around on TF days so seems a better idea.
Any hints / tips welcome.
Been on 2 fast taxi laps, driven 1 lap at "5/10ths" and been passenger 1 lap.
Given that you don't have any experience an instructor is an absolute must...doogalman on here instructs around there top fella!I went in October 2018 to watch , seemed great. don't fancy hooning it around on TF days so seems a better idea.

The day is a fairly expensive outing so it makes sense to get the most out of your circuit time as you are unlikely to do more than about 15 laps. If you are learning the track from scratch on the day and do go for an instructor I think you will struggle to absorb all the info as there are a lot of turns! I was speaking to the guy that ran it and he reckoned it takes about 50 laps to learn the circuit. If you have access to a racing sim it makes a big difference to your enjoyment on the day if you at least know the layout in your mind when you arrive. I didn't have an instructor and didn't regret it. A mixture of Asetto Corsa and watching some really good track guides (check out Misha Charoudin's channel) gave me the essentials to have fun on the day. I actually bumped into him in the car park as he was doing some instruction. If you can get a few laps with him that would be worth it.

Yeah I have Project Cars 2 and GT Sport with a G29 and Playseat, I've probably done 100 laps on these games at Ring .
