The Sierra does look seriously quick, and would be capable of some quick times round Oulton Park if he spent more time on the power than he is off it! He needs to be more "sympathetic" on the accelerator, and carry more speed, rather than point and squirt! Lines generally were good, other than first chicane after Shell Oils hairpin.
Thanks that's good advice from an ARDS instructor. I'll pass on your message thumbup
This. It's been a while since I've raced (early 90s!) but yeah, backing off everywhere. Example, out of that small chicane onto the back straight he got along side that 968(?) then bailed out. Later on, on his is own he's lifting off at about 114mph half way down the straight...why? Brakes inefficient or balance of the car under braking? Doesn't look much fun, point n squirt. Prefer to have less power and be more involved wth the momentum.

Oulton, raced quite a few times there. Best track in the country. Aah those were the days.

Flame away..

You all look a lot better than me - here is my attempt at Brands Hatchs a couple of months ago - I know I should have been on the throttle earlier in the corners but at the time the car felt like it wanted to understeer and I probably had too much pressure in the tyres (Yokohama AD08Rs). Full weight Golf - will eventually give it the weight loss treatment.

Please excuse the cackling to self - I was taking it seriously but also just really enjoying myself laugh the fun stopped after getting black flagged for noise in the end:

A lap of dry Cadwell

I don’t need telling where all the mistakes are!
Genuinely enjoyed watching that!

Looks like great fun. Very nice car control - sideways through Hall is always gonna be scary!

Cheers! Funnily enough I don't tend to get too worried. We measured my heart rate on my smart watch thing last time and it went down while in track. I'll have to do more. Clearly good for me.

Been doing trackdays for over 4 years in that Mazda now, never once spun it. That breeds a bit of (excess) confidence too.

Here's one in the dry probably November ish. https://youtu.be/UDvaUHvF1_0

Weather looked dire in the morning, those laps must have been quite late on? I almost came along myself but bottled it due to the sheer volume of water early on..

My first time at Thruxton was 2 weeks ago. Best I managed was a 1.40 before the rain came. Quite a daunting track that'll take some time to get used to the speed of those long curves.

Thruxton is a terrific circuit.
1:40 isn't bad for first time on this very fast track clap There's lots of time to come out of that, so have fun as your lap times drop thumbup

The weather looks good for next Monday and they're offering free tuition so I may book up and see what a dry day will produce. Given the car I suspect a 1m.30s lap wouldn't be beyond imagination.

That should be well achievable in your car on such a very fast circuit ; my mate's 50 year old Alfa with 1/3rd a QV's power
managed a 1:34 around Thruxton last Saturday in the 'Swinging Sixties' series.

We got down to 1:28 in Future Classics (not 2019) but are definitely wasting time and should be quicker. Thruxton is a demanding circuit.

Congratulations, that's a huge improvement. Do you have video footage?

Actually I was stunned you could achieve 1:30.6 on second visit until I looked up Lotus Exige 410. Wow what a machine - must be close to the ultimate road-based track car. On List 1B road tyres, would get in the very low 1:20's and should be under 1:14 (ie quicker than BTCC) on slicks.

Yeah, got footage and vbox. Just going through it all but the laps that I could have pushed to 1.28/9 I hit traffic at the last sector. Difficult to pass there.

My instructor this morning suggested that the Cup2 tyres were good, but would not hold up to repeated abuse at that speed. Next time I should fit track tyres.
