I am really enjoying my Porsche 968 Sport track car. The fact that it can take a full set of wheels and a 35kg trolley jack (as long as you don't take a passenger) is something I find hugely useful. It does however, lack a bit of power.

While there is no track action going on, I got thinking's what else might do the same? Obviously the 924s-968s will. The Porsche 928 is too heavy and I am not interested in BMWs. Any obvious contenders in a 2 seat sports car/coupe style, preferably V6 or V8 and 300 BHP or more?

PS I know the 968 is technically a 4 seater, but mine isn't.

Whether the OP is "interested" in BMWs or not, that is the perfect car for the brief given.

That’s something from left-field, but does fulfil the brief. Not maybe as stylish as I might want. I’m guessing an M3 is the obvious other contender. But I’d prefer it not to be a BMW.

Could you get a full spare set of all four wheels in a Z4M. It looks unlikely?

If we're also including cars that are 'technically' 4/5 seat coupe's with the back seats folded/removed, I'll try to stay away from more modern vehicles & BMWs - you could try:
  • VW Scirocco
  • VW Corrado (that's what I used for a few years)
  • Vauxhall Calibra
  • Rover Tomcat
  • Ford Capri
  • Ford Puma
  • Toyota Supra
  • Nissan 300ZX
  • Opel Manta
  • Mitsubishi 3000gt
  • Jaguary XK8
BTW, a Z4MC would be very tight - you'd probably only get one in the boot (battery box is in the way) and not sure if you'd fit 3 in the passenger space - even with the seat removed.

370Z is a good shout. 4 wheels might be a bit of a squeeze.

I could always supercharge the 968 I guess.

Don't think you'll manage it with 350/370 with the boot design & rear brace.

A gt86 with added boost, or a gtst skyline (2wd) could suit. Or indeed boost the 968, or 944t & mods

Any coupe that’ll take a roof rack? Bung the tyres up there for the journey. I’ve even seen a spare pair strapped to the cage of a Caterham.

Any particular reason why it can't be a BMW?
A M2 would fit the brief.

Regularly took 4 track day wheels/tyres, trolley jack, some tools, soft suitcase for up to 4/5 nights away if in Europe, helmet and two 20 litre fuel cans to track days in a TVR Cerbera.

Although it is a four seater, only children and three wheels would be comfortable on the rear “seats.” A Cerbera is a V8, exceeds 300bhp and weighs only 1100 kg.

Actually, a TVR Cerbera is a great shout. I have always quite fancied one (owned a 4.3 Griffith) many years ago.

Laughable, if you think you can fit 1 wheel/tyre in the boot you have done well, you will end up with 3 on the passenger seat..

It is possible to fit 4 wheels into a 350z, 2 in the boot, 1 either side of strut brace an 2 on the passenger seat.

The gt86 can also fit 2 wheels in the boot and 2on the back seat
