Brilliant, so sympathise with the fixing and improving, most builder/modifiers seem to have the same issues to some extent, but brilliant read anyway......I hope I'll get there next year.
It's also a great antidote to the current and growing trend of 'Social Media' track builds. Nigel doesn't fit bling, doesn't constantly remind us of the brands he's buying, and doesn't end every post with a series of hashtags and gushing mentions of "the people who made it possible".

This is much more my kind of motor.

Fantastic write up Nige. It was my first DN day as a driver and the relationship your family has with Darren and the rest of his team make for a brilliant day for everyone.

I defo got out your way at least once!

"I`d just like to that my family, friends and everyone who made this possible"...laugh

Some people make a living out of the social media stuff. Which I still struggle to get my head around, especially `influencers`. Don't get me started on them.

Each to their own I guess, but it`s not for me.

Thank you. Misha does seem to like the Golf. That`s the 3rd video he`s done of it now From talking to him, whilst the latest and greatest are fast, he does like the old school projects a lot.

Although I`m sure if he didn`t get any views after the first video he wouldn`t do anymore

First video in 2016 with the aftermath of the tyre explosion

Second from 2018

Then there`s the one from the other week.

Glad you enjoyed it ! Might we get you in the passenger seat in 2021 ?

Cheers Joe. I know I repeat myself, but the fact we do this as a family is a huge plus for me. Lou tries to make the best of it on the barrier, waving and smiling at everyone. People starting their lap with a smile on their face has to be a good thing

I realise I`m extremely fortunate to not only be able to share my hobby with my family, but that they enjoy it just as much as me and actively participate.

As I mentioned in my post, Misha did another video of the Golf, a walkround where I talk to camera and then a lap. It`s now online. biggrin

Very enjoyable read as always Nige, shame about the mechanical cutting the day short, there is allot vested in these things so painful not to get maximum value out of it.

Misha is starting to sound like a tabloid newspaper, looking for subscribers at any cost by the looks of it. FYI last time I checked an LMP1 is a single seater, amongst other things lol. The vid was nice though.

It was April 2016 when we met. Where's the time gone!

Yeah, Ringmeisters was a bummer with the failure but DN24 and other days since haven't had any engine issues. I'm not trying to tempt fate but I hope that won't be a problem again.... As you say, you invest so much into these days, not just money but the time preparing then getting there. It's not like a short drive there and back to Oulton Park in the day is it.

I enjoyed that video with Misha, titles and thumbnails are nothing to do with me biggrin

Although the comments section does let the keyword warriors have their say with impunity rolleyes

You do wonder what world people live in " that Porsche was obviously faster than you" , "but you can`t drive the Golf on the roads daily" , "The Porsche could leave you if he tried" etc etc

Well OBVIOUSLY ! It`s a 991 GT3RS for goodness sake and I`m driving a home built MK2 Golf !.

That's life though and with a title like that you are going to get reactions, which I guess is the point.

It probably says more about me but I can't even remember what I was driving back then, Mini GP maybe? No idea how many laps we've done since 2007 but '19 and '20 with no ring trips has been a big miss I can tell you!

I'm determined to get something sorted for next year, I just need to pull my finger out.

Touche Nige wink

but is it necessary.......he already has an established channel with some strong associations (Apex/Robert), in my mind its a tad poor taste and fishing for the wrong crowd for the sake of a view count and any revenue that may come from that. Anyway, I digress.

Looking forward to the next one.

I think it's a bit of both. You seem to need a click-bait title to pull in those on the fence. I know I've clicked on videos I might not have done with a less enticing title.

Is it necessary, I don't think so. Then again I don't make a a chunk of money from my YouTube either. If I was chasing the views and adding ads before you could watch it, perhaps I would, but I've been uploading videos for 15 years and haven't yet...

Secondly you need to to have a video worth watching. With the best title in the world, if the subject doesn't grab you or the actual video is crap, you'll either not click at all or watch for a few seconds then close it, which doesn't get the return they need.

Mishas video has done 10x better than I expected. I mean that literally. I thought it would be between 30k and 70k views, maybe peaking at 100k.

It will pass a million by the end of the weekend. eek

A brilliant write up Nigel and reminds me how much fun participating at Destination Nurburgring events is.
Very much enjoyed having the GP3 on track but perhaps a Golf for me next year.
Look forward to seeing you again and I hope your winter prep makes the Pinderwagen even better than it already is!

Fantastic thread, I really enjoyed reading this. I spent a good deal of time under the bonnet of VWs helping mates, and this has brought back memories!
