The Simpson still needs to be anchored by harness straps.
According to Simpson the Hybrid S works with 3 point harness. Check their web site.

After smashing into a car in front (i was in the passenger seat, golf mk6 GTI) at decent speed on the motorway(not very high-speed, but still 10k of repairs) i got neck pain for years after that, it would have been much worse with a helmet on due to the weight. I was surprised that the airbags didn't trigger. So a hybrid device could be helpful even in a modern car to reduce the neck strain, especially if you use a full face helmet which is heavy.

I'm just about to advertise a very good condition Hans device if anyone is after one?

Used about 10 times and looks brand new.
What size and angle please?

3 point harnesses still have two shoulder straps, they just bolt to the same place rather than two places

What ever happened to the CG-Lock?

That used to be what people used on a 3-point belt on track when I was a lad...

hmm.. quick google brings this up.

I think we're mixing up 3-point retractable belt (the normal type in a modern car) and a 3-point harness (two straps over the shoulders, 1 strap through the knackers).

3 point harnesses have two shoulder straps that join together before a single rear mount point, plus a lap belt mounting on both sides of the hip point. You don't strap over your knackers. laugh

It would limit the braking force you would want to apply somewhat! laugh

Just to be clear, Simpsons definition of 3 point harness is the 3 point retractable belt that are in every car. Its tested together with the auto manufacturers in the US.

Check around the 21min mark to get some numbers from the testing.

Apologies if someone else covered this, didn't read all the replies but plenty saying that really you need a proper harness too.

In a 3 point inertia system the effect is less marked, as it's designed for a level of torso movement and twist around the belt. Vs harness where your body stays put and head keeps going.

There is a good video on youtube from robert at apex on the different approaches

Why would they go to all that effort on that car and not put a proper harness in?

It's a road car shell without a rollcage, no anchor points stronger than what is being used on the 3 point belt, also in a rollover you'd be safer in a 3 point as you have side movement if the roof caves in.

With a four point harness if the roof caves you are at more risk of getting a crushed spine.
