Just seen Javelin have a TD at Silverstone GP for £349 end of April which seems an excellent price for the GP circuit that time of year. Done it once before with W2R in August and had a great day, wasn't fully booked, not loads of cars, few race cars but plenty of space on track. Was expensive at around £500 though didn't mind paying that for a well organised day.

I've never used Javelin before but heard good things....will this price at that time of year be full of race cars testing and general likely-ness of let's say....bad manners on track? Really want to go for it but worried it'll be a bit chaotic potentially, especially with some of the speeds possible there.

Appreciate any opinions...

Indeed! I suppose my question is more are Javelin a good TDO in real world experience dealing with poor driving and managing the day in general? Like I say, never used them before.

I’ve had mostly good Javelin days, and a couple of very bad ones.

My experience with them has been that they delivered really confidence giving briefings that gave the impression that they would tolerate no bad behaviour out on track ......

...... but then fail to follow the rhetoric up with action.

My experience is similar. Fortunately the layout of the GP circuit makes it less of a problem than bad behaviour at some other tracks.

Depends who turns up I guess. There's loads of room so risk is low, but you could attend when many cars are blatantly testing after a long off-season,

Colin that is the operator of Javelin Trackdays, doesn't miss a trick, and will not tolerate questionable driving. What you have to remember is, Javelin run the greatest number of trackdays by far over a year, and virtually all of them are full. That isn't something that just happens, it follows on from what they provide, reasonably priced, well run days, good relationships with all the track operators, and willing to listen to any complaints!
Of course there will always be a "loose cannon" when you look at the throughput of drivers, but generally, as a TDO, they are as good as you get, if not better!

The main issue is when the odd loose canon is not reported early in the day. It's everyone's job to report them to nip it in the bud.

They’re the one TDO I won’t ever use.

I like them, at Combe last September someone from Javelin walked around the paddock asking people what sort of day they were having, any issues with numbers on track etc. It was a nice touch I thought. No idea if it’s a regular occurrence or a one off.

Ultimately it’s about the drivers and as you say, whether anyone uses it as a test day for their race car, but I don’t think that many championships use the GP circuit so you may be lucky and just find it’s fast car owners turning up. I’d do it if I had something faster but the MX5 would be too slow and I’d be forever watching the mirrors
