Three sisters near Wigan is quite a tight twisty one, could be good for such a car. Then again it makes getting out of the way of others a bit tricky

I guess I'll go out and do it again! Silverstone on it wasn't that fun but it's just not suitable for it I think.

Sadly limited tyre selection will force me into warm dryer season for the S660, it's either horrible budget tyres or running NS2R. Anglesey would be amazing with the view!
NS2R will be fine.

I've run Pilot Sport 4 on track and had a great time.

Just to reinforce what others have already said - it's very rarely the car that is the problem, it's the attitude of the driver.

I've been on track with all sorts of fast and slow vehicles over the years, and I don't think I've ever been annoyed with somebody because their car is slow. Everyone has paid the same and has an equal right to enjoy themselves.

If anything, people in slower cars are less of a problem. They tend to be aware of the fact, go relatively fast around bends and then pull over on the straights. Even if they don't lift off, you can still easily get past in something quick.

A fast car being driven slowly is often far more annoying than the opposite. They can hold people up around bends, and then blast off down the straight so you can't get past. I once spent 2 laps trying to get past a BMW X5M in a Lotus Elise. laugh

If that happens to me these days I tend to just do half a lap of cooling down to create a big gap and then carry on again.

This. Or go off for a pee and a natter. (Not at the same time.)

I always thought my little Clio would be lost at Silverstone GP, which admittedly isnt quite as slow some of the less 'Hot' hatches, but it completely held its own. Yes the Porkas and M3s blasted down the straights, but the width of the tracks means triple overtakes are easy enough. So as long as your prepared to push in the corners (where its most fun and actually counts) most of the time you will be on par with the faster stuff.

Airfield days are ideal for this. Loads of runoff for those who are inexperienced, lots of wider parts for letting faster cars past, no sharp level changes to catch you out with low brake response/grip, and no Armco to send you home with a screwed up milk bottle top for a car. Oh, and they usually cost a lot less!
Largely this but the concrete surfaces are a lot harder on tyres. Keep an eye on them if you want to drive home legally.

Actually just did that on Monday. I was very suprised how well the car did, first time on track with the car and the lack of run off does make it quite interesting. There is proablably still at least 1 second to gain at the end of the day.

Some of the fast tracks with long straights (bedford or snetterton) are easier in a slow car as there are lots of places to let faster stuff through. Places like cadwell can be harder to overtake the 2CV race cars as there are only a couple of straights, which aren't terribly wide.

As for being too slow, I've seen some pretty slow cars on track (1.1L Peugeot 106, 2CV race cars, K11 Micras, enduroKa and citycar cup entries) and they've all been welcome, as they were all aware of their surroundings. The cars that do annoy people are the ones that hold everyone up in the corners and then blast away on the straight. On my first trackday there was an AMG G wagon which was incredibly fast in the straights, but very, very slow everywhere else.
I'd love to see an S660 in real life, I suspect if you were to arrive at a track in one a lot of people would want to have a chat and a look.

Reply to the topic question.

No but as we know, more power = more speed. More skill = faster times no matter what you are driving, (up to a point).

I find it quite funny that we, (a lot of us) chase more bhp to whizz around the track but conversely, my 1999 2.5 turbo diesel Tranny motorhome only has 75 bhp and will cruise all day behind trucks at 56 mph with the occasional sprint up to 70 mph, even with my 1.5 tonne Boxster on the trailer.

It's a slow bank holiday morning, as you were..........

Just a thought, anyone tracked the rear engined Twingo?

There is a great photograph I have saved somewhere taken at the ring of a Volvo estate on full attack on a corner. The tyres are practically at 90° to the rims where they are trying to part company.

The two guys in it look like they were having great fun!

A little standard 1.4 Skoda Fabia can take a few scalps at Spa! :-)

ISWYDT, you say little 1.4 Fabia, but video from 2012 and the 1.4 then was the VRS with turbo and supercharger and DSG, which explains why it is barely losing any ground to Evos / Elise / GT4 in a straight line tongue out
