Nice, sounds similar to the 107/Ka series' etc.

Unfortunately I'm busy this weekend or I'd be down having a nosey round for sure. biggrin
Its similar but some how we have managed to make the cars cheaper and faster then the KA and C107go options. The way the Mazda2 series is being positioned is between the City car cup and the fiesta championship. The cars are faster and more fun (in my opinion) then the CCC yet wont break the bank like a season in the fiestas.

The enthusiast who wants to build a car on their drive. potentially drive the race car to the track, compete and drive it home again is our target audience. Simple mechanicals and readily available spare parts make the cars very easy to work on. I'd be happy to send you the technical and sporting regulations we will be working to next season for you to have a read of and see what you think.

Your also welcome to try one of the cars on track if you want. We'd organise a track day and go from their.

Could you send the regulations to me too please? I'm leaning towards a 7 based series but I do like the sound of Mazda2s

ETA: just seen your previous response. I'll drop you an email. I was on a track day at Anglesey last year with a Mazda 2 race car that unfortunately had a bit of a smash...

Be Aware though - It eats Time

It's Very addictive
We spend £1200 per club race meeting running at a competitive level. Need to budget £10k for an 8 race season. That's without build costs, blow-ups or crash repairs.

Track days cost around £500 each.

Ensure you are realistic about where this funding comes from, or you're on route to bankruptcy and/or divorce...

I'm 53 and have been involved in club motorsport and trackdays for most of my adult life, I've competed in karting, hillclimbs and sprints, stage rallying, road and targa rallying, never at any level, I have a few trophies but mainly when classes were poorly supported!
I have been more competitive when I have had time to compete regularly rather than turning up a couple of times a year!
Competing in circuit racing would complete the motorsports bucket list and is still an ambition of mine.
I am put off by the initial cost - ARDS, medical (required at my age?), license, race wear and helmet, would that lot be around £1500 before I sit in a car?
And I also worry about spending a significant part of my hard earned on a race car and having someone pile in to me at the first corner of my first race!
I have had crashes in other forms of motorsport but (with the exception of karting where repairs were cheap) they have been self-inflicted which hasn't upset me.
As such I would be avoiding a race series with very tight, close one make racing like Caterhams, MX5s or Stock Hatch and looking for something vaguely historic and gentlemanly, I've spectated at a few HSCC meetings and Historic Road Sports looks like it might be reasonably safe and fun!

Have a look at CSCC Swinging Sixties if you want to do something “historic”. Driving standards are good and the paddock atmosphere is very welcoming. Incidents do occur occasionally but I would suggest that there is a lot of respect amongst drivers who are generally all paying for their hobby themselves.
Plenty of scope to race something from an MG Midget or MGB to an Elan or E-Type depending on your budget.
I cant help with the initial cost, I am afraid but once bought you will have your kit for years - I still have a set of overalls, boots, gloves and HANS that I have had for 20 years (but then I only do 3-6 events per year.
Talk to Pete or Mel Edwards at The Motorsports School at Mallory Park for ARDS test. Good people who will help you through.
