Hello all,

I might be purchasing a Guernsey registered car from a U.K. based dealer.

Car still has Guernsey plates on it.

The dealer will do all the stuff involving registering it with the dvla, fine , but from the date I buy it until it’s refrigerated my understanding that I, a U.K. full time resident, can’t drive it until U.K. plates are on the car.

Is that correct?

Car btw is a Ferrari 458.

Why do you want to refridgerate it?

You might have to declare the aftermarket ICE to your insurer

Don't be too hasty, there'll be a cooling off period if you decide its not for you.

Will the dealer be servicing it, topping up the A/C or doing anything other than changing the number plates?

If you had ordered the car new from Ferrari you wouldnt have driven it straight away as you would have to wait on it being built. Your wait is similar to that.

Ensure the dealer has paid the VAT.

FFs lol. One typo and it’s all gone wrong.

Yeah VAT paid.

I’m just hesitant buying a car which I can’t use for 4 weeks while the DVLA get it registered and in the meantime I’m insuring it and paying finance on it.

I guess it is because you are a new owner and the previous one was from Guernsey. When I moved back to the UK from Guernsey I drove my car on Guernsey plates using a Guernsey insurance company, but your circumstances are different so this might be more difficult to organise.
As the saying goes, good things come to those who wait.
Remember there is a 35mph speed limit over there, so it won't have used all its gears whilst driven over there. Stretch its legs when you get and it will be very grateful. I always thought supercars were a waste of time over there.

Why would you not buy it after all that has been completed?

There is also a very lively track scene, hill climbs and sprints. France is only an hour away. driving

I bought a car that was Guernsey registered from a chap near me. He'd been given the car by his son and had been happily driving it about Glasgow for 2 years still on the Guernsey plates but insured by a UK insurer on that registration number.
After I bought it I registered it with the DVLA and paid the taxes etc and was issued a UK registration number. To allow me to drive it to get an MoT my insurer were happy to register it the Guernsey reg number, all the circumstances were fully explained to them.
