Is there anyone out there in a similar situation to me who can help please.

I used to love cars, constantly changing every 6 months or so to get the next one.

I started in my 20's and bought my cars outright, saved and bought the next one etc.

Then as my income increased, I invested in property etc and finances are free flowing...yet my urge to buy the cars I used to desire, is no longer there!

I would dream of e63, c63, m4, rs7, i8, california, gallardo etc etc when I didnt have the money, but buying one no longer appeals to me as I can now afford them, I dont have the urge.

Not sure if its just an age thing or novelty wearing off kind of thing?

I constantly find myself looking at older cars on autotrader now, 2013 a7, 640d, cls, panamera etc as I feel more than 15k on a car is too much now, even though I could purchase any new, I just feel comfortable spending less?

I am continually investing in property, my friends suggest leasing, but I feel it might be a waste. I work from home and have a run around for now, so not wanting lease commitments, probably get bored after 6 months?

My idea of buying used was to swap and change, get a decent deal and not lose too much come resale.

I used to easily splurge 25k+ in cars, sell for similar money, sometimes make a profit, but it no longer appeals to me.

Feel as if im bored of it, is there anyone in a similar situation who feels this way too? I kinda feel with the lack of work commute it takes away the love of driving. Shopping trips, weekend drives are ok but do miss that aspect of driving to work.

I used to love the finding aspect of a car, travelling to see it, do the deal and drive home. Sometimes that was better than the actual car haha. My wife tells me to delete the autotrader app lol.

Not sure if I explained it fully but is there anyone similar to me, or am I a lost cause lol. What have you done in that situation. Thanks

That’s me

Over the years I’ve had various Porsches, M cars, AMG’s etc

I now run a Seat Mii electric

I’ve just lost interest in modern cars to be honest, most of them just seem fake, and whilst quick as hell, with lovely interiors, that just ain’t “cars” for me

With the current car prices and running costs just reinforcing my views

I have a motorbike for thrills, and to be honest I prefer cycling to driving nowadays

Friends and family genuinely think I must be struggling financially but I’ve never earnt more than I do now

Can totally relate to this

My passion for cars has dwindled having owned probably 50 top end cars over the years.

Currently have the new R8 and never really drive it....which would have been unthinkable 10 years ago when I used to obsess about cars

I think as you get older, the "been there done that" factor kicks in and you realise that after a point its pretty same same

I also think the UKs strict road traffic legislation makes it hard to properly use performance cars which again kind of makes them somewhat defunct a lot of the time

I still enjoy a good drive but its not the be all and end all that it once was for me

I lost interest a few years ago now. Always had a classic and something 'quick' for daily use, would buy a dozen cars a year some years. I think it's just an age thing, really.

Pah, you lot need to get out and have some fun..

The great thing about cars is that more expensive stuff isn't always more fun. It's not about "ticking off" a list but having something genuinely fun on road that you actually use and create memories with.

All these M cars, Porsches, spending £25k+ isn't needed at all. Something like a sorted Clio 172/182 for sub £5k can be just as much, of not more fun on road in the UK.

Nothing more frustrating than having an expensive car that sits about not being used.

This is me too.

Spent my younger days chasing the £mega evos, scoobs, gtrs, 911 turbos, etc, etc. Been there, done that, no desire to spend big on 1 car again.

Still love cars, but into older, cheaper, fun stuff these days. Currently have a huge desire for a Yaris T-Sport??!!

This is my favourite right now;

https://youtu.be/ymgztHohsSE

Enjoy driving it, working on it, meeting other owners, it's great.

I think my interest in cars has waned as I've realised I can't and never will be able to afford any of the cars to which I've aspired, especially as new cars don't interest me and the older cars that do continually appreciate of reach.

Architecture was a bad choice.

That’s worked for me ^^^ .

Also get a 70 s carburettor 308 to revisit what a real car feels like .
No ECU s No electrotwackery, no PAS , no nannies , no TPMS …..no nought !

As simple as your garden strimmer. Fuel + spark = it goes .

FWIW , bit late now I know your £££ is safe too .Kinda redemption for all the losses earlier in life swapping , chasing the next alleged best thing you read in a mag or lately car forums listening to guys jizzing there pants over GTS vs GT3 , Performante over Special, vs superleggera , or what ever Macca number is out next 0.01 sec faster to 60 than the one 3 months ago etc etc .

Yeh let it go .

I can relate to this and I think it's a change in priorities as you get older. I'm far from wealthy but I've had some nice cars over the years including two Caterhams, a 300ZX twin turbo, a Westfield, 205 GTI, etc. Whilst I could afford to change cars every now and again there is nothing out there that I can afford that would make me significantly happier than I am now.

I still love driving and the current fleet includes a Seat Leon and a Mk3.5 MX-5. I've owned the Leon since 2015 and the MX-5 since 2012. No rush to change either.

Add in the constant lowering of speed limits, greater traffic congestion, pot holed roads, more speed cameras and I just can't see the value in spending £30k+ on a dream car. I do still browse the classifieds and would like a V8 vantage or a 997 but can't justify the cost.

I do have a bike license and have been seriously looking at getting back on two wheels after more than 15 years away. Nothing too silly but a middleweight naked like an SV650, Z650RS, Triumph Trident, or a CB650R all appeal and best of all, are affordable. might need to invest in some new riding gear though......

Same here. No doubt about it.

I got sick of the negative connotations of my shouty new AMG, and don’t harbour any feelings of want for anything similar.

I’m retired and just can’t see myself in a new high-performance car, even though, as the OP stated, Im more in a position to afford it than ever before.

Happiness for me lies in the 1990s stuff at the moment. On a sunny day, my 31 year old R129 SL is blissful and sedate.

I still love cars as much as I always have, and I've not lost the passion for them at all. Speed cameras/traffic volume gets on my nerves a bit, but there is always a time/place for some fun though I reckon. driving

If I was wealthy enough to buy a Lambo...I'll buy one tomorrow.

Its a lot of things for me, can buy most stuff I want but it never really has the joy it had, its great, dont get me wrong but doesnt really have the same enjoyment.

Like buying computer stuff, the wife decided the printer was arse, so told me to get a new one, in the past I would be all over it reading reviews and stuff, just went on Amazon and bought a HP one, then had the chore of setting it up, zero enjoyment. Perhaps as it should be but would have loved that 20 years ago.

Car wise, have learnt if you like the one you have, dont be too eager to jump. I really enjoy driving the Fiesta ST I have, spent quite a lot on modifications and would be loathe to let it go. I suspect we at some point will be in a position to buy some nice metal, could do now with a bit of man maths but not all that fussed. Suspect I would either not enjoy it any more, maybe less, have a 40 grand hole in my bank account and miss my noisy boy racer car. I quite like that I have done a lot of the work, choosing specific parts and it all works together and is a much better (for me) version of what I started with.

I'm the same op.

Have owned a couple of fun, cheap-ish cars in my teens/20's whilst I lived on a shoestring, now I'm in my 30's and earn decent money (had 25% worth of payrises this year) yet I find myself wanting something fun/special less and less. I seem to get more of a kick putting more in savings and investments.

I am really tempted to change my 320d for something fun like a 440i, C43 etc, however I worry that I'll regret it and detest splurging god knows how much each month, especially as I work from home and 75% of my mileage is motorways visiting family/friends.

Might just end up getting a faster diesel like a 530d or something.

Totally agree, I need to get out more in the car and enjoy it.

£70k Corvette Z06 sitting in my garage averaging 1k miles per year. I feel actual guilt right now.

I know. I am somewhat ashamed.
Doesn’t help that it’s too loud for any track days.

I think that, unless you’re mega rich, it’s just a fact that the thing you want most of is time. Particularly if you’ve got a family. And cars, once you get past a certain level of extravagance, are quite destructive to early retirement in that they’re typically quite rapidly depreciating assets.

Not really the sort of thing to write on a car enthusiast forum, but it is what it is.

Tempted to get a bike license and get my thrills cheaper.

I totally agree with the OP though my cars are lower down the cost ladder. However I did the Boat thing. Oh dear, as soon as you whisper ''marine" parts prices quadruple. Marina fees are seriously high and you have to use their mechanics who in turn pay a fee to Marinas for being there otherwise you pay the marina a fine if your favourite mechanic comes aboard. Also most boats have been messed with over time so there are fewer standard models compared with cars. It can be lovely while it lasts but it is really an expensive hobby 2 MPG, anyone? and sad when you see ocean going yachts neglected because owners have other problems. Someone on here recently posted that if you think your exotic car is a money pit, then try a boat, then a yacht ,then a hellicopter.
