Stick up the 2m51 on Harry's as a YT video as I'm keen to see where the e92 loses time to the CSL!
lol after your first visit to spa and a time of over 2.56 and now after 4 visits you have come down to a 2.49, so a seven second difference which is a steady improvement as would be expected with more experience of an unfamiliar circuit. For my first
visit and half of the day was wet to break 2.50 i think is quite good and with some more time on track and a bit of instruction i know there is plenty of room for improvement which is only normal with the extra experience. But if you are there next year at the same time it would be good to follow you round for a few laps to pick up some tips wink

I wish I hadn't looked at this thread. Back in 2008 I went in my then standard Audi S3 (8L / 210bhp), was my first proper track day and I did have a video which I just took a look at. Scary, the times are below. Same issue I seem to have whenever I go karting I don't seem to get any quicker, may seek some tuition this time!

Will have to try and do better when I go back, anyone got a time for a stock e39 M5?

Looks more like 2:50 - if he'd actually crossed the finish line.

It's one lap and the video is ~2:45 so you're very wrong about the 1:44, maybe 2:44 is what you meant?

Yes, I meant 2:44.5 That what Harry's Lap timer with external GPS shows. It is not 100% accurate, but very close

My learned friend is correct, video starts well after the grid markings, and finished before they have finished....never a 2.44 never mind a 1.44.

Good lap, but why willy wave for 3-5s or so?

Look at the timer when video starts. It's about 2.3 seconds before video starts recording and duration of the video 2:43

I've looked "better" and you're still about 1 minute 5 seconds out.

HLT is about as accurate as a sundial without external GPS. Even with, as here, it's way off the mark.

Video does start at 2.11s but overall the lap is a goodun.

HLP I've seen can be 1-2 secs out at Spa. My best ever was 1.3s faster on HLP than PBkx (1Hz v 5Hz) so unless you have external GPS aerial it could be a bit out but nonetheless I can tell by corners minimum speeds you will be a few secs faster than me for sure (CSL 2m 49.3)

Nice lap.

When you save to Overlay, go to settings and add delay and overrun to a few secs so everybody can see the whole lap with a countdown...then save to YT

Look better again. This is a raw video before HLT overlay data and cut part of it. I hope you will manage to hit "pause" button at the same place where it starts to see a lap time.

I'm not sure how all this will help the OP asking about a track day in 2009, but hay i like a good You Tube video, so here is my E46 M3 around Spa. (I know i'm cheating as its a race car on slicks) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTTWi8GSvmk&fea...

Yes, without external GPS HLS is way off. I've got 5 Hz external device and it works very accurate. Just figured out how to overlay the video on HLT. You need to go to raw video and move forward finish line. Now it looks much better.

When you go to OVERLAY you can set the video to start a few secs earlier and finish a few secs after with a countdown so much better than you have left it like this

Love that. Flat round Blanchimont..

Would it have been faster if it hadn't been geared to 140mph top end?

Yes, we had a noise in the diff after qually, and there wasn't long until the race so the team swapped it out for the spare ratio that was on the limiter for a fair potion down the Kemmel straight and approaching the bus stop. turns out it was ok and a noisy joint but better safe than sorry.

In Qually trim with new slicks we managed a 2:31.3 so a fair bit faster, some of that time would be on the new slicks, its flat up Eau Rouge, unfortunately the logging with the camera didn't work, so as far as PH is concerned it didn't happen :P

My best currently in the Juno is 2:40, 5 secs up on last year. Quite pleased with that. Again, we use old slicks and I ain't particularly talented so don't expect low 2:30's that these things can do in races. When we first put them on they're already a race old, but it'll still do Blanchimont and Eau Rouge flat for a couple of sessions. After that though it starts to get loose at the back and you have to back off a bit. The vid below is a 2:42. I only had the camera in for one session (it was borrowed) and it was later in the day. The logger in the car got the 2:40 (no camera, in for repair).
