ever taken a paycut
Discussion
Just under 2 years ago I took what amounted to a £10k cut in take home to move from a consulting role where I was miserable and taken advantage of to a similar role at an end client. I set expectation that I would be back on the same money within 5 years and that it was worth it for my mental health.
Within 18 months I had been promoted 3 times and am now on a similar take home to before, but with a great pension and other benefits on top. And most importantly, I've never been happier work-wise.
To quote my wife during the first 6 months: "I'd rather you were miserable once a month on payday than every day..."

In real terms, yes. We went through a bit of a ‘wobble’ during the economic crisis which started in about 2008. Although not an actual pay cut, there was no year on year ‘adjustment’ to account for increase in living costs, so in reality it was an ( inflation rate ) pay cut. Fortunately, inflation was very low ( in historic terms ) so it wasn’t so bad.

£65k to £28k in order to move areas (get out of London). I lasted about 10 weeks and went back to London where I've been since
You’re ( virtually assured) a hoof in the nuts, if you move from a job in London, to a similar role outside the M25 boundary.Live and learn
