Has anyone any experience of working overseas for humanitarian charities and the like? I have applied for a handful of positions where I feel my experience as a paramedic would be an asset. I am due to go over to Moldova in July as part of a volunteer project working with families living in extreme poverty but apart from that I am flexible.

Are you looking for permanent paid roles abroad or short volunteering (and thus often unpaid) stints in between your main employment here (assume NHS?)?

Do you have any other transferable skills/experience/qualifications (such as being ex military/CBRN/climbing skills/EPRR qualifications etc)?

Are you looking for early entry or joining existing or more mature operations? Are you looking for low/high risk gigs?

Answers to these will help to signpost you to the most suitable organisations/roles and get appropriate responses from those who have experience.

Good luck with your existing applications and trip to Moldova.

Degree in Paramedic Science and 8+ years experience on frontline ambulance.

Looking for full time regardless of risk. I have applied for some volunteer organisations to gain experience in the field. I am also looking at studying something relevant but it's proving difficult to find. Some, thug like disaster management or disaster preparedness.

Its a few years since I've looked, but most places didn't want Paramedics as they weren't recognised locally, wanting nurses and doctors instead, though maybe thats changed a bit now. http://www.intrescue.info/hub/ these seemed interesting, but I couldn't commit to the time requried at the time.

Would be interested in reading some sort of post / diary updates on that if you get time & internet access!
