Hi ive been given a start date (2 weeks) for a trainee train driver position. I have yet to be reference checked/backgroud checked. This time next week i need to give my current employers a weeks notice!!! I just find it abit strange that a TOC would offer a start date relativly soon without checks first.

What if i left my job and checks came back bad? What then? Surely a TOC wouldnt spend all that money on assessments and medicals then dismiss a trainee if he had bad references/checks.

Dont make sence...has anyone else been offered a start date and had checks after?

Quite common, as all offers are normally subject to ref requests ... definitely a risk, depends if you're confident of what you have said about roles being used as a reference really!

Yep, quite common.

Somewhere it will be written that the offer and acceptance of employment is subject to satisfactory references.

P.s. How are you going to find the correct station to stop at when you can't find the correct sub forum to post in... smile
