Lost My Job This Morning
Discussion
Evening all,
After a delightful two week holiday in Turkey I returned to work this morning to be informed that I was no longer needed in the company.
It was an estate agency and I had stared just two and a half months prior. I left a similar role at a nationwide company for this position but they have filled my space.
Feeling a little lost (as you would be I suppose) but at least I have a couple of full days off to study for my exams later this week for my Masters in Building Surveying!
If anyone has any advice, a bit of background, I'm 25 with a mechanical engineering degree, studying for a masters in building surveying.
Strange feeling, wasn't expecting this TBH and just feel a little odd. So sorry for the rambling, poorly formatted post!
If anyone needs a trainee engineer or surveyor, give me a shout, haha.
Thanks for listening/ reading,
Bob

Did they serve notice or was it immediate termination? Was that what was in your contract?
My assumption is that you're a casualty of the cooling housing market?
Think how you will cover this in your CV.
Regardless, it's how you react and move forward that marks you out. As it wasn't meant to be, the best and only productive option is to drive forward with your education and job hunting.
Plenty of jobs on the market so employment isn't the challenge; doing what you want to do, in a location of your preference and at a wage you desire remain the challenges.
Good luck!

You can do much better than working in an estate agency. They did you a favour even if it doesn't seem that way today. The world needs professional engineers, put yourself about and set your sights higher. Good luck.

This in spades. You can do much better than working in an estate agency. They did you a favour even if it doesn't seem that way today. The world needs professional engineers, put yourself about and set your sights higher. Good luck.
Hopefully you've got enough savings to see you through the exams, and then you will have plenty of very good options with those qualifications.
