A really well structured CV will move over onto linkedin easy and with a decent photo and a few frills around the edges will start to get you noticed. Mark yourself as looking for roles (only recruiters can see this) and get stuck into the skills section and pick the ones most relevant for you as these are what come up in searches. Then, as someone above says get involved in relevant discussions as you will pick up links from readers and the more links you have the more likely you are to hear of something useful to you. LinkedIn has gone so far downhill it makes Friends Reunited look like a success story
There was a time that jobs on LinkedIn were posted by in-house recruiters and every one resulted in a serious and professional discussion. Now it’s just another channel for the usual mass recruiters who will get a thousand unqualified applications for every posting and don’t know enough about the role or about candidates to do more than simple keyword matching.
Discussion posts are a pathetic mix of self-promotion and the most hopeless imaginable company puffs, it just makes you yearn for a good honest product press release.
Worst of all are the recruiters and offshore vendors who want to “connect” and push their services regardless of whether you are hiring, at least one approach a day.
I’ve ditched a premium subscription and am likely to de-register entirely once GDPR means that linkedexit means linkedexit.

I put my CV on Indeed, various other job sites and LinkedIn. I get loads of recruiters telling my what an amazing CV I have and then delivering bugger all ... except the occasional message telling me about a "really exciting role" which I might be interested in but is wholly inappropriate ... and then telling me if I don't think the role is for me but I know someone who'd be interested to pass on their details. f

Myself and everyone I know have only ever got jobs by applying direct to the employer. I have no idea how recruiters make a living!

This is my feeling on it too, I have a Linkedin profile, but generally detest going on there. Apparently for most jobs doing what I do, I dont have the right skills, just because nobody has 'approved me' or 'recommended me' or whatever. I look at jobisjob when I can be bothered. Otherwise I just call a cpl of recruiters tell them I'm available in x period of time.
