Everyone on here is a company director or successful BTL property developer. Buying and flipping multiple houses before lunchtime. Some retired by 40 with large portfolios of high yield investments.

In reality, most wear blue suits, pointy shoes and work in a call centre to pay for their rented Golf R.

In either case, I’d see careers advice elsewhere.

Pilot career dependent on passing a medical every six months.
They’re not exactly difficult to pass unless you’re diabetic or have a dicky heart.

Accountancy rocks

(It doesn't actually - but I thought I'd just chuck that in).

My advice is neither. Don't pick two random "higher paying" roles that are competitive and you have no interest in.

There are thousands of jobs that pay better, you just need to invest a bit of time.

cosmetic Dentist is the one. Open your own practice and watch the £ roll in. Well thats what it looks like to the layman anyway.

I asked my dentist why teeth implants are so expensive.

She said, 'well, you have to do a course, thats 40k, then my public liability will go up by at least another thousand a year'

I sat there as a paving company and thought, well my plant and equipment has cost me 60k, my public liability and other insurances are knocking on for over 3k a year.

It was at that moment i realised why i shouldn't have fked about in school, smoked loads of weed and basically treated it all as a joke. I don't do bad but I'm not earning anything serious. I also have a fked body after years of hard work, lots of general worries and stress too. They even charge to tell you how much they are going to charge to put new teeth in hehe

I know it takes several years to become qualified but thats no different to becoming a tradesman, it also takes years to gain experience which can warrant you charging any reasonable amount of money in order to make a living.

Im also very aware that the vast majority of dentists are more intelligent than the vast majority of trades but still, maybe i should have paid attention earlier on hehe
You should have trained as a web developer... wink

In my experience Web Development is on the lower paying end of the spectrum when it comes to IT professional careers. Just above IT support, on par with Windows Sys Admins hehe

One of my closest friends and his long term partner are both Doctors, early on into their careers (We're all 30)
They're both incredibly hardworking and whilst the financial position of being a two doctor household is obvious they have had to sacrifice a lot in terms of free time and flexibility to do what they want.

They're both going down the GP route and think in the long term it will really pay off for them.

Re pilots, not acquainted with any however is it not a role that will be severely reduced over the coming decades due to increased autonomy? (more so than they currently have?)
Complete unknown to me though if I'm honest.

I can't say which is better! depends on what you want from life.

Very good mate of mine went through RAF fast jet, quit after 13 or so years (this year), now works for a consultancy within the business (still flying planes) and has various offers to take a 'normal job' as an airline pilot, which he will prob take due to arrival of little one. From what i've heard (with respect of RAF pilot), very much up and down over the years, but it remains the only job i occasionally wish i'd persued.

Can't comment on being a doctor, but from my perspective, i'd say it's still an incredibly well respected profession and i can completely understand why you'd aspire to be one.

Maybe, the very pretty young woman dentist was visibly repulsed when she had to endure looking into my mouth the other day hehe Im not sure she could take much more as i was swiftly ushered out.
When they say "open wide!" it's not that end they're referring to.

RAF Fast Jet to Airline Pilot...

Isn't that like making the jump from F1 racer to Bus driver?

As already stated, neither are careers you should really look st just to get the biggest payday. I think to be successful in either field you’d have to really want to do it and be driven by your passion to achieve the outcome.

And your post reads as anything but.

Pilot will likely cost more @ £110k if you get on the MPL system - as preferred by the budget airlines et al.

OP, why are you asking?

Are you just curious what people think or trying to decide how to deploy your immense talents?

As a single man a pilot without question all day long
A good friend of mine is a pilot and so I know all about it
You have long periods eg Weeks not working
You can have a 4/6 night stop over paid for in a nice hotel abroad and be with the other pilot and air hostesses
You get treated well
When you’re not at work you have lots of time to do other things
The social side is great

The only issue is I’d suggest long haul but if you want to be a family guy then having kids is an issue. Many male pilots are divorced for obvious reasons too

A judge is a good shout. You're almost always the top man and don't do a massive amount of hours once you have your feet under the table.
ttbot's usual uneducated but highly opinionated bks!

Yipper, why don't you tell us how to become a judge then...and how much it pays..
You're mistaken, he's not a judge, but he's good mates with the judge that resided over the OJ Trial. I'd see it like this:

Doctor means you'll be paid much more for an easier job, but how enjoyable will it be after X amount of years?

Pilot means you'll never get paid what you really should, but tell someone you're a pilot and they'll think you're pretty cool. Amazing job to have, can't imagine it ever getting tedious.

I'd rather be in IT though, so people know I'm interesting as soon as they meet me smile
