Thanks for the replies. I’ll just have to speak to the company to see what the options are.

It isn’t a UK role BTW; it is a Global role for a large American Pharma company and the role is based in the US; I am negotiating to see if I can do it remotely with an element of travel as my personal circumstances do not allow me to relocate.
Do they have a UK office?

Only challenge I have found is more around time zones. My team is split between Europe/US/APJ so often have to be flexible in terms of taking meetings and working later which can be a struggle. If you can get your meetings done UK afternoons then you will be fine especially if they are all based in NJ.

Simon.

I would probably find out if there is any state tax in New Jersey, find out what the cost of living is around the area and try and decide whether that's going to work for you, I know you say your circumstances won't allow you to move to the US but one of two things will happen.

1. The role will demand that the work be carried out by a US domiciled individual.
2. The role can be carried out globally via a subsidiary.

I work for a US company, my bosses office is in California, I was the first EMEA hire for the group (although other teams were already well represented here in the UK), we now have staff in India, UK and the continental US.
I manage a global team and for all intents and purposes I earn a US based salary converted to £ equivalent. My HR is all carried out via the US (even tho we have a UK HR division over here) but all my finance (expenses and salary etc) are completed by UK Payroll.

I work from home even though we have a number of UK based offices (the closest of which are about 3 hours away) and although the HMRC don't officially recognise home working here in the UK I get away with it because my 'office' is based in the London office, although I have no desk \ landline number there.

I spend more time in the US than I do in my London office but for all intents and purposes I am a UK based member of staff.

As has already been mentioned, be prepared for early starts and late finishes although with a 4 hour time difference for New Jersey that's much nicer than my 8 hour CA time difference.

Simon.

5hr time difference.
It’s only 4 hrs this week and next due daylight savings wink
True as I discovered this week when my boss called me an hour earlier than usual... missed that time zone shift completely.
