This chap thinks it isn't.

Sorry, I thought for a second that was Jeremy Kyle. He wears no tie. I bet it' s a safeguard against being choked by fat, gobby chavs.

White jeans.
Stetson.
Boots with a tall heel.
Don't wash your hair for 3 days.

What could go wrong?

I have to disagree. If wearing a suit, wearing a tie is de rigueur.
What business are you in where you feel that that’s the case?

It’s not been true in banking for years.
I wear business casual. However, am surprised about banking. Are we talking investment banking? I remember - mind you, am going back 16 years - when a friend's sister mentioned that when she turned up at her investment bank job one day wearing a pair of gold lame heels, her manager pulled her into his office and enquired, "Are you being deliberately subversive today?". Everyone in her investment bank wore dark suits, white shirts, dark ties, and black shoes. Always.

Also, ridicule on Styleforum (I know, I know).

Royal Blue suit
White shirt with cream collars and cuffs
Either old Etonian tie or, for the more casual look, cravat
Red braces
Brown shoes
Pocket square
Chunky watch
Countdown wants you to be unemployed!

Yes, investment banking, and sixteen years ago business casual was the norm too, ties were pretty uncommon back then. Dress codes in the 2000s tended to go up and down with economic fortunes.

I still wear a suit, but most don’t, and no-one wears a tie un,was meeting a client. The only other time I wear one is if I’m letting someone go.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I'll go for the Daniel Craig look (without the watch and the neck chain). The cool undercover hitman/spy look should go down well thumbup

Hello mate, if you've had the interview I hope that it went well whatever you wore.

If not, then a suit is not business casual. Business casual is probably more like smart trousers, shoes, and a shirt with tie optional.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the help, I've just been offered the job!! party

I went with the suit no tie as per the Bond look above for the informal meeting which turned in to an informal interview which I wasn't expecting so i'm glad I went with the advice here!

Formal interview I went fully suited and booted - black suit, light blue shirt and tie.

Thanks again, i'm bloody over the moon
