Well done and congrats evilmunkey smile
I think MYOB has already paid the franchise fee, as already in window cleaning training. Therefore any further advice is likely considered unhelpful.

No payment made yet. And I wasn't actually seeking advice in my first post.

Well today was sign off day for me and how good that felt !!. was surprised too. the nice adviser i saw, has without my asking sorted out a month bus and train pass for me and even a payment for a couple of new shirts and trousers. I felt a bit guilty about that but she insisted. will help a lot though and is appreciated. Now to get grafting and save for a cheapish shed / run around to get me back on the road as its been a year now sice i had to sell my last car due to finances. feel like weight has been lifted and just worked out the wage per month and also realised it would be more as i wont pay tax for a while due to not being on the threshhold yet. life is about to become a lot more comfortable and cant wait to come home feeling knackered after a good days work smile

Good luck, how are you getting on?

I've joined the job hunting having been made redundant & finishing up in September. Have had a couple of interviews but no luck yet, one second stage interview tomorrow so fingers crossed.

Am not sure if my CV covers the key words that recruiting managers are looking for, have had positive feedback on my CV but all my interviews have come about from referrals!

Back on the market again after 4 weeks work. Got an assessment at amazon, as just looking for money until new year really to try and find a more suitable role.

So should be interesting but is local to me and they are hiring, and don't want to go on benifits, not that i ever have.

Thats great news smile i had my first one to one meeting with my manager today , she told me they are very happy with me and how proactive in learning the job as the training is next to non existent and thats surprising for a big government dept. I'm not one for just sitting there so took it upon myself to shadow colleagues , ask questions and generally show that i want to help with the workload. and bless em they are a tight team who welcomed me and my attitude and are always there to help and support. we have a good laugh too . and nice to know its been noticed by my managers too.

Had an interview the other day for a parts position at a truck dealership. Bearing in mind I have an IT background, they still wanted an interview.

Found out yesterday I hadn't got the job. The reason why - not enough mechanical knowledge.

fks sake. Shouldn't that have been picked off at the shortlist stage? Why waste my time and theirs if they were going to just dismiss me for not having mechanical knowledge. rolleyes The bloke interviewing me even said not to worry as the system they use directs you to the correct part.

I spent 3 hours the other day prepping, and took nearly two hours out of my day for the interview. Waste of time that one.

If there was another reason they didn't want me, why couldn't they just be honest about it?

Probably just an excuse. Never expect honesty when it comes to job interviews.
I can think of many many possible reasons for this, from a "better" (which itself ranges from competence to perceived threat level) candidate right through to there not actually being a job and them using it as a chance to pick your brains for free.

I feel your pain but it can go the other way.
When I was redundant I heard through contacts that a large Telco was looking for someone with my skills, pre-sales, technical, telecoms/call centre (perfect near 20years experience in these areas).
It was a large corp so had a very defined process for interviews, luckily I knew someone who had done the training and got some tips.
Interview went well.

I didn't get the job as I was too Call centrey - Well, yes. I'm a call centre specialist appling for a call centre pre-sales job.

Could be your level of experience made someone uncomfortable.

Always worth remembering that a lot of hiring managers don't want the best person for the job, they want the best person that won't take theirs.

I agree completely, unfortunately in the UK it seems to involve promoting people of a lower skill and intelligence level. I mean think about it, British firms are full of idiot managers, they came from somewhere, someone promoted them.
It's kinda snow balled, idiots promoting idiots, promoting bigger idiots. If your an idiot, it would make sense not to promote someone who could take your job from under your nose by doing a better job than you.
