I literally am asking for a friend.

He has been advised he is to go to court over a speeding offence, currently has a clean licence & is a first offence. He was clocked doing 66 in a 40!

He hasn't had the court date yet but we are away in April which is fully paid for and is worried it will be then. So my question is is he able to request a date change date or is he going to have to forfeit the trip if the date falls on this few days we are away?

Thanks

Have they told you you have to appear in person?

The only letter recieved states

"Due to the nature of the speed surrounding the offence, the matter will now be heard before the magistrates. A summons will be sent to you in due course informing you of a court venue and date"

You may well be able to do everything without having to appear, they may require you to if they are considering disqualification

Of course this assumes your are planning to plead guilty

The letter is incorrect as you won’t get a Summons. In England & Wales, criminal proceedings for speeding offences are commenced by issuing a:

Written Charge and Single Justice Procedure Notice or
Written Charge and Postal Requisition.

Your question is academic because the SJPN / Postal Requisition can (and usually should) be dealt with online via the makeaplea website. Notify the court of all dates to avoid; on the plea form, at the end of your mitigation statement or separately by email.
