The "I've been furloughed" Thread
Discussion
Some good news today, a managerial position I applied for whilst at risk of redundancy have offered me the job. It’s a few £k less that what I’m on currently, but with much better prospects and will get me out of a dying industry and into a fantastic charity. After over 3 months of furlough and worry, I’m looking forward to going back to work.

If at the end of the 30 day consultation period I am made redundant (which is what I am expecting) does the fact that I am on furlough affect my entitlement to 12 weeks PILON ? Thanks.
Being on furlough doesn't alter your employment rights.LukeBrown66 said:
I think a hell of a lot of companies are going to use this all as an excuse to get rid of people they either dont want or are paid too much.
It is effectively a clear out, much like what happened with Brexit when you had numerous companies using it as an excuse to lower the wage bill.
Obviously I am aware a lot of these firms have struggled, but I can see a whole lot of losing perm staff and keeping on temps, so they can make a quick buck then close. Or close stores completely.
Let;s face it, in most cases the retail sector has had it's day anyway, town centres are going to look very different in the next 20 years.
It is the Pubs, eateries I feel sorry for. They must be run on a tight string anyway
In my experience, big companies have institutionalised employees who are working at 70% of what they are capable of. It is effectively a clear out, much like what happened with Brexit when you had numerous companies using it as an excuse to lower the wage bill.

Added to the procedures that have 30 to 50 % waste, and pointless management reporting, it's hardly surprising that someone in the executive suite, in G wing (Moor Lane) has asked an intern to click on a mouse.

Yesterday marked 100 days since I was furloughed and started this thread. 100 days! It's gone incredibly quickly and at the moment no end in sight.
This is my 106th day now, seems mad that it so long, but as you said it has gone really quickly.Much the same as you I do not see an end in sight, I should be returning under a flexy furlough agreement but no news, I am starting to fear that bad news is on the way.
We’ve all been put at risk of redundancy. Consultation taking place for next 45 days. My job has definitely gone, but I can apply for a different role which I have a fair chance of getting. However, that role can not be made available until after the consultation. Therefore can’t see me coming back off furlough until either I’m accepted for the new role or I’m made redundant!

Even with redundancy, the redundancy payments plus the paid 3 months+ holidays has to be worth it!

Having only been with the company just over a year, I will get nothing in terms of redundancy.
Ouch...Still looking on the positive side you've got 100+ days paid where you could use the time to improve yourself or simply to relax.
I would really advise polishing up your CV and trying to get some interviews in though. I've noticed the job market is picking up in certain sectors.

Big Companies are quite happy to have lots of 70%ers, as they stay a long time and are often 70% cheaper than hiring from a competitor! Staff churn is expensive and knowledge is lost.Added to the procedures that have 30 to 50 % waste, and pointless management reporting, it's hardly surprising that someone in the executive suite, in G wing (Moor Lane) has asked an intern to click on a mouse.
