I've got an interview for a big retail bank Monday, it is exceptionally good money and the role more importantly attractive for my future.

Challenge is I'm nearly 10 years in at the current employer and "secure" enough at the moment.

The new role is London based and they have regional offices, however I applied on a whim on the basis that I think we'll all be gauping down MS Teams calls for the rest of our lives now!

1. Am I mad to be jumping ship this year with the state of the economy?
2. How would you approach the situation about location? They know where I live (2 hours on train into Waterloo) so do you think they'd be thinking what I'm thinking too?

Gook luck for Monday!

I currently work and have worked for nearly all of the domestic retail banks. Most are looking into ways to reduce time in the office so unless it's absolutely necessary for your day to day role I would except you to be able to negotiate 3 or even 4 days a week WFH.

PM me if you need a hand with the competency based interview prep.

Well got the No on this role today.

I'm still looking for roles, it seems to be a good opportune time to change roles if the companies stable, a lot of roles seem high on salary and im wondering if this is IR35 net effect?

Another thing Is working from home, probably better to start a role WFH than have to go in for the full 3 months and be the new boy.

Do not let the rejection get you down. I spent 6 years trying to make a move from one industry to another before being successful. It was grueling but worth it in the end. I also made the move from one company to another during lock down. It means I have never met my work colleagues. That turned out to be another good move.

Keep at it and you will make it happen

Thanks for the kind words here.

Move wise I'm in a decently paid role at the moment, I'm just finding the environment becoming more and more toxic and selfish with no recognition for individual accomplishments, and after having this for so many years a change could be nice. This particular role was high salary and to be honest probably ten times worse and hostile (but more $$).

I've got some other options, I just need to make sure its the right way to go.

We've had a few new starters in lockdown, I can imagine it's fine if you've not moved to a role thats too unlike the previous one, but a nightmare if you struggle to work out politics in an organisations and read the signs about what's going on!
