Is an open university degree well recognised?
no just do some udemy free courses and get some experience in a junior role.
I do not think there is a stigma against open university degrees but the value of a degree in general is reducing and experience trumps education. Getting that experience can be challenging so education can open the initial doors but is not required.
As someone who recruits, evaluates candidates and runs IT related teams, I would say an OU degree is very highly regarded, especially if completed alongside fulltime work.

However -- sadly people do look for/ask for experience, so having a degree/certs etc does not on its own get into a role (unless you are happy with equivalent to grad roles).

Nothing wrong with Udemy, but OU carries weight - to me anyway (note I don't have OU degree myself). But you will need to find a way to get experience too.

Do the one that most interests you. That way, when it's 11:30 on a Sunday evening and you've still got another hours work on an assignment to finish before snatching a few hours kip before getting up at 6am for the day job on Monday morning...
Very good advice for short courses, but for a degree course that go on for months or years after the initial novelty has worn off the more important thing is being clear about why you want to achieve the qualification.

At 11:30 on a Sunday evening half way through year 2, it isn't relevant whether it's interesting, you're only interested in whether it's relevant.
