I just got £60.10 paid back for 21-22 tax year after they recalculated so cheers Presumably I’ll effectively pay similar amount less this year, now they’ve changed my tax code to 1288L.

Better my pocket than theirs.

Sorry yes £6/week. This is the maximum without evidence, apparently you can claim further with evidence, but I’ve not done it as yet
It's easy enough to claim the greater WFH allowance, but you'll need evidence to support the claim should HMRC wish to question it. They will accept 'reasonable' claims, and 'reasonable' is HMRC's favourite and vaguest word.

The same as working away if you're self-employed and staying overnight somewhere claiming for food/drink. If you're having a pizza/small takeaway every night or eating at a modest local restaurant, then that's reasonable. A 7-course tasting menu and £150 bottle of wine at the Savoy 3 nights in a row is not reasonable.

It's back to normal, and the WFH allowance can't be claimed for this 2022/23 tax year, but you can claim it for last year, to simply answer the title of the thread.

Claiming for expenses incurred when working from home has ALWAYS been allowable and is nothing to do with Covid 19.

The basic rule is that an expense incurred "wholly, exclusively and NECESSARILY" as part of your employment is claimable.

The word "NECESSARILY" is what causes the problems.

Missus just got 60 quid refund too, plus higher tax code for this year so results in approx 15 quid a month better take home.

And, just a warning, HMRC does not always state its own rules correctly on its web pages.
That's helpful, and not altogether unsurprising.

(not a dig at you Eric)

Apologies for jumping on somebody else's thread, but in order to not start another km the same topic -

I did a small claim when Covid first hit.

Over the following year we were forced to WFH intermittently (probably for 6 months of the 12 all in) any time there was a local spike in infections / change of government guidance.
After this we were told to be in the office 2 days a week and we could work from home the rest. This wasn't however mandatory.

Can I claim for either of those 2 years?

Yes, that’s what I did. You will get 60 quid back plus a better tax code for this year.

If you scroll back up, I posted a screenshot with the current HMRC rules now in place.

They may have incorrectly changed your tax code for this year, depending on your particular circumstances.

Not so much WFH but claiming tax relief on hotels and food while on business, Does anyone do this ?
Working Public Sector they won’t pay Hotels or food bills but expect you to travel there and back in 1 day.

Ideally driving from 5am to 8.30am and then back again 4.30pm to whatever time is acceptable !!
