The point here is very simple. This reg'ed & used M3 was being bid up by off-the-wall bidding to 'very serious dough' but there was no buyer, thus it's back on eBay again.

Just to keep you guys happy:-

1. The winning bidder was a chap in Scotland and when contacted to say he won he ignored the calls all day then called back at the end of the day to say he bought a brand new X6 because he was not contacted in time.

2. The second highest bidder was a 13 year old kid whose dad phoned and said he didn’t realise his son was bidding on the car.

3. The next legitimate highest bidder was not above the asking price.

4. The car is now listed as a classified advert not auction.

5. When I said the car had been advertised once was because there was two black sport evos for sale on Mobile.de around the same price at the same time.

6. stevesingo, if you think that people should buy cheaper cars and countries, the same could be said about a GTO Ferrari at 6.5 million quid you could by plenty of countries. and before you say it’s got providence etc it makes no difference. you seem to have a bee in your bonnet about people asking money for their cars and almost take it personally that someone advertises their car for 85-100k. If you’re so concerned about this unfair pricing I would be more than happy to by your sport evo off you at well under market value today. Something is only worth what someone will pay for it and if someone wants a mint low mileage original M3 sport evo then they will have to pay for it, or in your opinion let them have it for free and also throw in a hooker and a bottle of champagne as part of the deal.

7. As you guys are so concerned about everything give the owner a call, his number and email are on the advert and i'm sure he will be more than happy to hear from you. (as long as thats ok with you stevesingo) as you seem to be the judge and the juror on this case.

Well as far as I am aware Bonkers (the famous RS collector) i.e. the guy that bought them together with an RS200 and Merc Cossie only sold one and that car was on the market for £80k and sold very quickly. So either someone paid a premium to that £80k or it has since been re-sold.

There's a completely different dymanic to a completely unused car and a low mileage car...those were probably the only two unsed Sport Evo's in the world bar whatever BMW owns....there are probably 20 or 30 very low mileage Sport Evo's in existance.

Here's a very low mileage Evo with 17,000 miles on it http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3690831.htm That car has been for sale for quite a few weeks and is certainly comparable to the SPort Evo that's currently up for £85k. Now given Evo's go for something like £30k in good condition and this car is absolutely mint but unsold it's probably fair to say that the low mileage is probably worth £15k.

Given that the two Sport Evo's also on this site at £60k aren't shifting it's probably fair to say they are worth £50k. So MAYBE that means a very low mileage one is worth £65k...

That just sounds so incredibly plausible. Not. Has your mate left bad feedback for him ?!?!

Out of interest did your mate ask him why he bid £85k for it when the next highest bid was £82k ?!?! Or did he just thank him for trying to push up the price.

Sorry for being so cynical but people on this thread were predicting the car wouldn't sell and it didn't. I mean what are the chances of getting so many people bidding spuriously on the same auction ? Talk about unlucky.

Honestly, Walt Disney would hire you for your story telling abilities.

You have added nothing to this thread (bar giving me & no doubt others a right laugh) and detracted from the sale of your 'mates' M3. Best thing you could and should have done was said nothing!

If you are selling a car such as this on eBay for such a high asking price, don't be surprised if you get clowns bidding on it - it isn't a serious buyers market at this level IMO.

If you want to find out what it is worth, then stick it on with a 99p start and no reserve! hehe

nice thread thumbup

i've never seen a more amateurish attempt at trying to control the market price :rolf:

the silly fact is that the car is worth serious money, £85k? maybe, maybe not it all depends on who's looking & buying at that particular time.

a simpler, more honest approach would be to get in contact with the press about the car, get it featured in a few magazines, group tests etc, get a well publicised thread going about the car, reach out to the enthusiasts who would want it & the offers will come rolling in.

sticking it up on eBay & getting your mates to bid the price up is about as daft as it gets on something worth that much, you're always going to look like a prat.

of course you could enter it at any of the large auction houses throughout europe & see what it fetches, might get a little bit expensive if you're "bidding" mates end up winning it like the eBay auction though eh? wink

It's just very hard to believe you when you have plainly contradicted yourself. "It's never been for sale anywhere" "Well it has once" etc etc

That is quite easy to explain. You don't need 2 bids over the reserve price.

Reserve set at 85k someone bids 90k price goes up to reserve which is set at 85k and could be 10 grand more than next low bid.

Done exactly this when I sold mine 5 years ago on ebay. I had a price in mind that I set the reserve at. Someone rang me, spent half an hour going over the fine detail and then asked what the reserve was set at I told him and he bid slightly over that 2 hours before the end of the auction. No great mystery really. (Oh it was an early 87 E30 M3 and the reverse was a tenth of this ones)

You have been misinformed. Both were bought at the same time by one purchaser.

The reserve wasn't £85K though, it was selling at £81k (IIRC), then there was a bid of £82k(it was definitely selling at this point), then £85k, then £85,100 which was then retracted.
