The 1M is very wantable but unless you are an outright cash purchaser, it's significantly more expensive as there isn't merely the £10k purchase price differential, but also the significantly higher interest rates and weirdly lower GFV that BMW want for a used 1M over a new M135i.

Plus the M135i is available as a 5dr hatch which makes it a far more usable everyday proposition than a 1M.

This link may work better? For the RS3 v M135i comparison.
Well done to all who saw this was going to be a cracker to drive.

Collected mine this morning, driven home, going up to the dales for some sport later and all for sub £30k.
Pictures to follow.

Out of interest, does anybody know what the equivalent setting in the active suspension setup would be if you were to spec a car without the active setup.

I hope that makes sense, I'm struggling with a lack of sleep today!

From my test drive, the 'product genie' said that the standard setup in the non - adaptive car is the same as the sport setting in the adaptive equiped car, so basically the adaptive setup gives you the ability to soften the suspension rather than firm it up further.

Which in my M3 is really night and day between comfort and sport!

Interested to hear updates from those who have purchased one. I am seriously considering it!

I'm 1,000 miles into ownership of a 3dr auto. Need to get a post up in reader's cars soon.

I didn't spec the adaptive suspension. The standard set up is just fine - it rides far better than my 2005 120d SE did, and it rides better than the X1 sport that I drove to work this morning (dealer clattered the M135i on the transporter when they unloaded it. I was too impatient to leave it with them to be sorted after a 4.5 month wait, so it went back today to get the paintwork sorted). I would suggest not ticking the adaptive suspension box and instead pick the Harmon Kardon hi-fi. I have the middle of the range stereo (was being offered free when the car first went on sale) but it's not very good. Hate to think what the standard speakers are like.

But then again, who really needs a stereo when it makes the noise it does!!

Depends on your criteria. If you are cool with a 4 cylinder engine then there's plenty of choice. Realistic rivals are Golf R, Audi S3/RS3, Mercedes A45 AMG. Turning the wick down a notch, then it's the GTIs/STs/Giuliettas of this world, which the 125i MSport is aimed at, price and performance-wise.

What for me sets the M135i is that it's the only 5dr hatch you can get with a decent 6-cylinder engine AND a manual gearbox. Oh and it's certainly the only RWD one.
And:

The Golf R is more money, so is the S3 Audi and they both use an old engine (from the Mk5 ED30/old S3).

The BMW mullers the opposition in every area, it's cheaper too.

For £29,995 you get that well oiled BMW quality, a great cabin and most importantly the brilliant 6 cylinder engine with 316bhp and 332lbft torque.

Compelling stuff.

As long as you squint.......
I think either BMW will raise the price of the M135i or VW etc will be forced to reduce the price of the Golf GTI/R models - I got a steal of my MKVI GTI but if I'd paid list price it would've been £29035 and even at the £25.5k I paid if the M135i had been available at the sort of price that the OP is paying I'd say there was such a lack of contest that VW should just give up and go home.

I'm even more sure of that now I've had a proper drive in one - essentially a similar price to a decently-specced Golf GTI but and extra 100BHP plus the 6cyl howl when you put you're foot down. I'm pretty much sold although I don't think my local dealership will get anywhere close to the figures quoted earlier in this thread, £320 a month with £5k deposit I'd be signing up right about yesterday, especially as I don't want many options so the base price of "mine" would only be £31400. They were quoting about £397 a month for a 116d sport for my OH (which we unsurprisingly didn't take) with a similar deposit so I'd be interested to hear how/where this deal was achieved!

Also states 0-100km as 4.7 secs but with the 2wd car reaches 100km/h in 5.1 seconds for the manual, and 4.9 for the auto.

So, the x-drive is quicker to 60 because of better traction. But how do those two extra driven wheels feel when it goes round bends? Does it handle just as well and the rwd? Or, like the RS3, is it a bit of a mess on the twisties?

Harris needs to get us some answers.

Will anyone be speccing the M Performance steering wheel?

Or am I the only one who likes slightly pointless, expensive gadgets...

No, but I'd love to switch the steering wheel for the one from the new 3-series MSport, which has a considerably smaller central boss. I find the current one is so bulky that there is no position I can set it to where it doesn't obscure part of the dash display.

Looks like BM are predicting based on Pablo's numbers

£31,487 will be down to £11,440 after 4 years so 35%. Maybe £13,500 after 3 years so 42%

No too shabby I reckon.
Can't wait. I'll be 25 by then and will finally be able to afford the insurance! biggrin From what I've heard its a cracking car.

BMW's X Drive aint 4wd

Its RWD with the ability to utilise the Fronts as and when, don't think the handling will be affected...?

Not sure why? But the X drive is not for UK delivery.

This may well change but as yet only available LHD.

Shame.

So far I've only driven mine in pouring rain, through floods, or on ice.
Seems happy enough though! Just don't floor it and take it easy round corners.
Was going to go for winter tyres, but not sure it needs it now. Full on snow I guess will be a problem, but hopefully we won't get too many days of that.
