Thing is, that a) the original seller probably investigated what he/she could get for the car before going to collecting cars. b) Anyone that is currently after a E30M3 will be aware of the car and will be aware it was only just sold for £30K ish so unless they are exceptionally daft, they aren't going to cough up another £20K laugh

Also, current economic situation is not ideal for selling relatively niche cars

Currently on eBay at 75k. Was recently 'won' in a competition iirc.

For 75k, I'd expect the obc screen not to be leaking

Anther turd trying for big money!

For £5K more. You can have this Cecotto currently on sale at ML (and I'm far from their biggest fan!)

£84K Gets you a Ravaglia

£58K gets you a 215 that needs a bit of tidying

And all this is before you start looking to Europe for a car! Plenty of options in Germany or the Netherlands if you want something decent. I just don't understand why these sellers (the black D reg and the Red track car) don't realise that the well heeled wont buy cars for well over market value. These aren't super rare cars really.

Apparently D988 LEL didn't sell at auction, but sold after for 60.

Yep saw that, it really is a lovely car. I saw it in the flesh a few years ago and I don't imagine it is any less nice now. All the better for its Sport engine etc in my opinion.

£95K... What's the consensus on the pricing on that?

Says he's retired. Link to the company doesn't work. Twitter not updated since 2015.

Odd car imo. The spec is curious. If you want to keep it OEM and low mileage fine. But fitting all the SE parts sounds like he was offered a damaged car cheap and swapped it all over. Instantly making the car less original, and worth less. And then he fits those wheels but keeps standard brakes. Suspension is different. I would have expected if he was modifying a car that much he'd be running Alpha N/CF airbox etc. Also stick to the known brands so Bilstein for suspension etc. No mention of history either. DVSA site says the car has NEVER been MOT'd! eek

Price is strong imo for a car that's not OEM spec/low mileage. A slightly higher mileage standard car in similar condition would be worth more.

£95K for a strangely modded 87 with no apparent history to prove the mileage.

Or

£85K for a 53k miles Ravaglia Ltd Edition with Full history

https://www.classicheroes.co.uk/bmw-e30-m3-ravagli...

I know where I'd (hypothetically) put my investment.

My impression is that he has owned the car for a very long time, long before all this focus on prices ever excisted. During that time having dealt with hundreds of these cars through his business has had the opportunity the transfer some SE parts into his, again long before any thoughts of originality, loss of value and rivet counting was ever a thing. I dont know how the SE parts upgrade came about so I'm purely speculating.

If you look at the car purely from that point of view with the interior and extra grunt from the 2.5 I think its a great package and certainly wasnt the only car back in the day to be upgraded as such. If I was offerred an SE engine for reasonable money back then I would have leapt at the chance without a single care about originality. As an aside I ran an S14 with an airbox as a daily and whilst the added grunt is welcomed the noise was not overly neighbour or town friendly, it isnt for everyone. Current S14 doesnt have one.

Of course you are right and times are very different now and originality, modifications and price are very real considerations that have to be taken into account if someone is considering taking the plunge. Given the above and in current times, I agree that the Ravaglia is no doubt a safer place to put a not inconsiderable sum of money. As a driving experience without any consideration given to price (impossible I know) I would expect it to be a belter.

Got mine coming soon on collecting cars I think sometime will end up with a bargain... Bought it for 9k in 2005 it was set up for track days with half a cage after I blew the engine up at Oulton Park I have been 7 years having it back to a shell and spent stupid money on it with the idea of driving it to the likes of Spa and the Ring like we used to but age has caught up with me. I should have put it back to an original road car I world would have gotten more and it would have cost a lot less plus I could have used it!
