You may be correct, so 90mph is a relaxing meander along the road.

Stupid question. I was washing the car at the weekend, caught the petrol flap and it opened. With the car locked! I assume it's meant to lock with the car...?

I assumed that the actual cap is the bit that locks... never tried it though!

when the car is locked a tiny plastic bolt is pushed from the left of the bodywork into a receiver in the cap.

Now either the inside of the cap is broken or you hadn't shut the petrol cap properly and it wasn't locked scratchchin

As far as I can see it's impossible to open under normal circumstances.

I thought that might be the case too, so I tried the cap and that opened as well!

Both cap and flap were definitely closed properly - cap turned until it clicked and the flap was latched closed.

Looks like it's a call to BMW to fix it then.

Are you sure the car was actually locked? When I use a hose on mine it locks and unlocks randomly, think it's something to do with the comfort door opening or whatever it's called, where you don't need to use the key?

yes

I leave the keys inside my X5 when I'm washing it otherwise the central locking goes mental wobble

Yeah. I keep my keys in a little anti-radiation pouch thing that means the comfort access won't work until the keys are outside the pouch. When I'm washing it I take the key outside in the pouch to stop the car going mad. Paranoid, perhaps, but it's also useful when washing the thing! smile

I need to play around with it some more tonight but I'm 99.9% sure everything was locked as it should be.

Resurrecting this thread as there is some great info on here

Having sold my 330d I am now actively looking for an M5. Would like one of the last produced as they seem to represent fantastic value for money. Only concern is whether I am best holding off a few months with more new shape models hitting the market?

Anyway, I have noticed a number of very late F10s in Silverstone II with Silverstone interior, CP & B&O. There were two AUC cars sold recently, and another now appeared and one at an independent.

Does anyone know anything about this. I’m assuming BMW built a batch to use some options up, but can’t find any info.

Any insight welcome.

If you want he best get the 30 Jarah 600bhp not 575bhp and will always be worth so much more than all the others.

The OP asked for an F10 that represent fantastic value "Would like one of the last produced as they seem to represent fantastic value for money. Only concern is whether I am best holding off a few months with more new shape models hitting the market?"

The 30 Jahre version is emphatically not fantastic value for money as they (for strange reasons) command a very significant premium.

A very late standard or Competition model would be the way to go.

I wouldn't go for a very late production date F10. You would be better off with a 2015-16 car, so you are nicely mid range in the LCI area.

In three or four years time the last F10's and the earliest F90's will be relatively close in value. At that point, most buyers will want to stretch to the F90 as a much 'newer' feeling car.

30 Jahre is at a silly premium still. Not worth looking at in my opinion.

Surely if he is after a “late F10” he must be thinking £50k budget?

I wonder if £30k is the smartest price point currently - 2 years use its still going to be a £12-15k car surely so not much depreciation to worry about.

15K depreciation in 2 years is quite a lot - wouldn't that take it down to E60 prices? Keeping an eye on these but won't touch them if they depreciate that much.

I got close to buying a pre-reg Silverstone/Silverstone/CP/B&O car about April/May last year to replace my M5. It was listed at £58K if I recall and it was the low part-ex offer that caused me not to go ahead.

So if you are looking at around £50K, that would make sense. With regards to depreciation, anything new or nearly new at this price point will lose a lot of money over a few years.

My journey went from thinking about that particular M5 to looking at one year old M6 Gran Coupes which were typically around £60K with Comp pack and B&O. Not quite as practical as the M5 but a much nicer interior.
