F10 M5 Review after 2 years
Discussion
Great write up! It was balanced and informative. You have given me an insight on real world practicality and alleviated some of my concerns.
I have just put a deposit on an exceptionally low milage high specced F10 M5 with M drivers package from a midlands dealer.
I can not wait to get my hands in it. Test drive and inspection in a few days then hopefully delivery before my birthday!

Hi, looking at possibly buying a used F10M5.
I guess yours is on service inclusive but are there any horror stories regarding parts prices?
Given you've had a V12 XJS I doubt it . I guess yours is on service inclusive but are there any horror stories regarding parts prices?
Vs the 520d you run brakes are going to be in the £2k territory when a 535d is c£1k.
Tyres will be more due to rim size and how much you use the right foot - but I've read that many M5 owners are seeing 30k miles out of a set which given 600bhp is stunning. Ditto MPG - man maths it's "only" 10-12mpg less than my 535d yet is 5 seconds quicker to 100mph!
Sadly it doesn't have leather dash and few optioned it due to the hefty price tag.
Had mine for 9 months. Only done 6k as I have other cars.
MPG is avergaing 22.5 in that time which for the performance I think is perfectly acceptable.
Zero issues, doesnt even use oil.
Performance is brutal if you want it. Sound is awesome. Only issue is traction and I think switchable 4wd in the new one is a great thing - you can turn it back to 2wd so, cake and eat it stuff.
M Multifunction seats are extremely comfortable and a must.
I love the adaptive LED headlights, too, witchcraft.
It is a big car, but my wife has a manual 911, so nice to have a few bases covered. Bit more low key for customer meetings.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Whilst your post is 2016 I am encouraged ahead of collecting my 65 plate F10 Comp Pack tomorrow. I have recently taken the decision to compromise by giving up my 981 Cayman S (rarely driven) and a lovely F10 535d touring in favour of the F10 M5. Fingers crossed, it will prove to be a great compromise and allow me to enjoy real power, every day
The excellent write-up by the OP deserves recognition even if it was from 2016. I share most of the observations.
The only thing that I find missing somewhat is the sound: it is brutal from the outside, so clearly nothing to do with the much talked about piped in sound, but the sound insulation is so extensive that very little sound actually enters the cabin. Also, would have wanted more distinct downshift blips, my E92 M3 was excellent for that, in the F10 there is hardly anything or at least not very consistently.
Apart from that it is a truly magnificent motorway cruiser that gets extended in Germany regularly, and even then maintains a decent range of at least 550 km on a tank.

My abiding memory from my F10 M5, was slamming the loud pedal down at 80mph on a clear stretch of the A1, the way it goes from 80mph is astounding, it was a real fk me moment.
I know why you mean......brutal Of all the car I’ve owned this is the one I miss the most
That said, I was a right tt in mine and always had my foot on the floor trying to head butt the horizon!

I know what you mean, but you kinda get away with it in an M5. Once I’ve seen an E60 toaster M5 hooning it in heave traffic sounded great but he was a tt.

94 in a 70, being zapped from a gun 609m further up the road and I was only somewhere around 100m from where I joined the road The female plod spent the first hour talking about fast cars and had quite an interest in how quick it was.
Still got 3 points and a fine mind
How does he F10 M5 compare against the
C6 RS6 V10 similar ish to buy now.
Merc E63 normally the 6.2V8’s but a few 5.5v8 bi turbos just get into budget.
Clearly M5 no estate and no awd but those aside what’s different any why? Or is it they are actually all bloody good and you’d not be disappointed with any of them.

I've had mine from new (Dec 11) to date and it is the best all round car I've ever owned.
I had the E60, loved the engine and, at the time, the v10 engine was ground breaking. The problem was it was also gearbox breaking as well. I had three gearboxes in that car and spent far too much time in limp mode.
The F10 was a car I'd looked forward to getting and on delivery was told to keep the revs down for the first 1000 miles. The car then, and even now, doesn't fail to impress on its pulling power through the range. What it has shown is that traction is the biggest issue. Living in Scotland with wet and muddy roads mean the rear wheels struggle to lay the power down. Apart from that the car has been bomb proof. I've done 80,000 miles commuting in and out of Edinburgh and trips down to England. It's a comfortable daily driver and great to open out on longer trips. Average 23 mpg and that's way up from the 15mpg I used to get in the E60.
I've got an order in for a new one, expected delivery in May, the big issue is do I cancel and wait for a discount? Paid full list for the previous one and then watched BMW offer big discounts. Apart from the move to AWD I'm not sure there is such a big shift between the two but happy to be proved wrong.

Another one.
Can someone measure the ground clearance at the B pillar for an M5 F10 with 19” and then 20” rims. I’ve an angle on my drive so need to compare the ground clearance to my F10 535d to see if it will ground out or clear thanks.
That pic is a USA car and from what I’ve read air cooled seats are an option in the states but it’s totally unclear that it is available in the U.K.
