Interesting reading the PH report on the facelift M2 and the comments on a potential M2 CS with the engine from the M3/4.

I've put a speculative deposit down at a dealer and will keep an eye on press updates over the coming months. Anyone else in the same boat?

Me tomorrow.
Although I have a current M2 and think it's absolutely brilliant. A bit concerned about the "better" engine

How do you find the steering in your current M2? For me the steering is one of the main let downs of the M4 compared to the e92 comp pack. Wondered if the M2 is any better and also if it will be a focus point for improvement in the CS

I have a m135 and the M2 is miles better, however my wife has a golf R and I prefer the steering in that to both.
New steering (electric) is crap. The M2 is ok, m135 is bad (although great car, steering main let down).

Put a deposit down about 6 months ago. Needs to be different enough from the normal M2 to interest me. Would have preferred the full CSL treatment but looks like that will be a while off if it does happen.

I've had a deposit down since last year, with a view to seeing how things develop, then I at least have the option.
When I placed my deposit the belief was that the car would be a CSL, but since then CS seems to have become the mooted nomenclature. This has prompted me to question whether BMW will make both?

From the snipits around it seems possible they will make a CS for 2018 then maybe a run out csl low volume version at the end of the series production in 2020.

But with all those variants it may be a bit excessive. I'd love something to compete with a Cayman gt4. E.g. Engine from big brother, sorted steering and suspension and a manual gearbox. Not massive concerned with it being a track warrior like the m4 GTS. In that sense the m2 CS and m4 GTS, could be positioned like the Porsche Cayman GT4 and the 911 GT3 RS

Put my deposit down March last year but if it is only a CS then probably wont bother and will wait for the CSL if they do one .

I believe anyone can put a deposit down and get a place. Just double check what position you are on the list as it will vary on dealer

With an enormous price tag to boot.

With speculative deposits what risk is there to the punter? Let's say the price is multiples of what you expected it to be and can afford do you lose the deposit given it's purely speculative?

Speculative deposit is fully refundable.

Once the car is officially announced they call you in to have a chat and review the spec. At that point you decide to go ahead or have your money back

Wouldn't be surprised if its £65k+. Just don't know if it will be worth it. But hey I passed up on a brand new 1M because I thought it was too much for a 1 series...

If BMW put another epic naturally aspirated straight 6, like the one from the nineties in the Z3 M and E36 M3, into the M2 with a proper manual and with the same steering rack as those cars, I would then attempt to sell a non-essential organ to buy one. At the very least ditch the turbos and tweak the 3.0L I say! It won't be as good as the original 3.2, but it will help matters.
Lol. I would do the same. If only!

I too have had a speculative deposit down for a while and hoping it might be the stepping stone to get me on the GTS list.

My dealership wouldnt take a deposit but accepted a letter of intent as thats BMW UK policy?

They contacted me over a month ago about the M2 CS/GTS order process.

They will not get allocations, you have to apply online and are vetted and told if you will get a car.

I was told exactly the same, and was also told it would help if you were an existing M2 owner. I do own an M2 but I'm not looking to get an M2 CS.

Will be an interesting move by BMW UK if that is the case. I put down my deposit last August for the M2 CS and have written confirmation of order, obviously subject to them making it and the dealer getting an allocation. I am apparently the 3rd paid deposit they have for the M2 CS.

However if there is a BMW vetting process, assuming the car is limited in production (the CS I am referring to, which I expect will be limited by time but not production numbers) that will be an interesting move being someone who has 3 BMW products in my garage currently all bought new within the last 18 months. Having gone through the pain, and fortunately having a positive outcome, of getting a new GT3 and having failed to secure a Golf Clubsport S (I bought a Clubsport Edition 40) and having missed out on a M4 GTS, I bought a M3 CP, I have gone through a number of manufacturers allocation processes for in demand vehicles and none has been particularly successful in its application.
