Discussion
This has been reported for a little while now and seems to have some substance to it. Looks like from July'18 production the standard M2 will stop and be replaced by a M2 Competition (not a CS) using a detuned S55 engine producing around 410 BHP/PS. I expect the car will be announced in Geneva, and it won't be a limited production vehicle. However as with current M2 volumes will be naturally limited so initial orders will be to those who have already paid a deposit. Could be that right hand drive markets won't see the first customer cars until this time next year.
I've had it on good authority that the M2 CSL did have an internal product code, which has recently been pulled. CS still on the cards though.
I put a deposit down in early 2016 for an M2 CSL and wasn't the first in the dealership. I know of 7 people in the company I work for that had put deposits down before I had at various dealerships.
I'm not sure whether having an early deposit or previously buying history will get you to the front of the queue first.
As with Porsche (who will happily take £20k deposit and tell you they can't guarantee you'll get a car), they favor previous ownership and brand loyalty over getting an early deposit in.

Just a special edition with no changes to engine/drivetrain unfortunately. Wheels look great though:

That's not the CS though is it? It's just (as you state) a special edition.https://www.bmw-m.com/en/topics/magazine-article-p...

Well it’s here, the full details of the M2 Competiton are in EVO magazine which has just landed on my mat.
Largely as we already knew or guessed, but UK price confirmed as £47,260. Manual gearbox is standard, and options will include the sports (M4) seats, DCT and “optional track brakes” but no carbon ceramics. No carbon roof, and no active dampers. There is the option of the 5 spoke wheels so you don’t have to have those nasty looking multi spoke things.
Deliveries start in July.
Probably going to be an extremely good car, but details have left me rather cold...it’s not really that special. And would I really want to change my M3 for this, difficult one!
The studio photos in EVO are actually very poor quality, but I am not impressed with Hockenheim Silver, it looks too like white. Maybe the car will look better in the orange when we get some photos of that.

Wouldn't say the M2 Competition is the CS. That's a much more special car, one only needs to see M3/M4 version for confirmation.
This Competition version will replace the LCI and will be a regular production run car, not limited. Looks to be a nice evolution.
Remains to be seen if a CS or CSL will come this generation. Can still hope.
I would query the cost though. Will wait for official info before believing it will be that "cheap".

For those that have had depsits / LOI down for a while, have you been contacted by your dealers or BMW?
I’ve had a chat with my dealer who hasn’t given any formal information but thinks there is a product launch on 18th April
Also does anyone know if production is limited or if it’s a normal run?

No doubt we will hear that each dealer has only been allocated 2,3 or 4 in the first year. Then a few more build slots will happen to become available, followed by a few ready built cars available if you are quick and finally a total folding of the market resulting in nearly 200 AUC cars of which over 120 are under 6 months old. I'm afraid I will believe nothing I hear now.

There is a launch on the 18th April but my dealer doesn’t know whether it’s the M2 Competition, or at least he didn’t last Sunday. Very much doubt production will be limited and the Comp will replace the current standard M2.I’ve had a chat with my dealer who hasn’t given any formal information but thinks there is a product launch on 18th April

S55 Engine!
So this replaces the "normal" M2. Wonder what that will do to used values.

I think some believed (incorrectly) that the M2 was going to be akin to the 1M in terms of limited production and consequent residual value and I daresay they've now had a bit of a rude awakening! However, I must admit I hadn't realised until recently that the forthcoming M2 Competition was a replacement for the current N55-engined car (I'd always thought it was going to be an additional model). I can't imagine this replacement doing anything other than putting downward pressure on the prices of the current model and I wouldn't be surprised to see sub-£30k M2's on the AUC website before the end of 2018....
Sub 30K M2s might happen once the demand for the competition version has been sated and discounting begins. As they don't arrive in dealerships till August that process will take a while yet. The original M2 is still a damn good car and the updates in the competition are very much evolutionary rather than revolutionary. But let's revisit this thread on 1 Jan 19!

This. There seems SO many used for sale for rediculous prices, despite there clearly being much more supply than demand. Prices VS M3/M4 make no sense. Great car, but definitely due some hefty devaluation pretty soon.
