The reason i bought the M2C is because it's manual.

I have a double clutch 'box in my diesel work van and that's the best place for one, not a sports car to enjoy driving in. IMO.

i've had many 911's and the early ones were definitely off set but never bothered me.

Watched a vid last night of Joe Achilles hooning around in a BMW supplied M2 with a doris to keep him company and a DCT box....have to say it sounded great when being thrashed and tbf they were certainly gunning it.

Find a car that doesn't have a offset of some sort between seat / column / pedals. The fact is the front wheel arch or transmission tunnel encroaches on the footwell in most cars except very wide vehicles.

Never seen it as an issue..
My old VW Golf&Scirocco for example? And my Fiesta ? And even the Mrs Vauxhall Viva.
Seems only an issue on longditunally mounted engines....

We are just discussing manual / dct and I was simply saying that personally I found it an issue.
Doesn't mean you found it an issue smile

I am not that old, but I do suffer a dicky back from time to time.

I don't / didn't notice an offset to the right that much on my rwd car(s), much more on smaller FWD cars where the wheel arch pushes the pedals to the left.

Agree though the effect of these things are subjective dependent on your body shape / seating position etc.

Anyway re gearbox, manual for me just to differentiate it from any other auto shuffling play station game-esque drive.

Pull for up, pull for down, repeat, yawn.

... I never realised there was an issue with offset pedals in my car until I read about it on here... smile

I bought my manual M2 back in August and the gearbox is very good. Not as rifle-bolt action as my GT3, indeed it's a bit wooly in comparison (what wouldn't be?), but perfect for a daily

I use the car for everything including commuting into Central London a couple of times a week in heavy traffic without issue. The clutch is very light and the revs load up automatically when you lift the clutch, so in traffic its just a 1-pedal job in stop-start conditions

I fell in love with the M2's looks first of all, and when I decided to get one I had an open mind re manual or DCT. My dealer had a DCT when I called up to express an interest in an M2 and so I test drove that, and although it's a very good 'box, to me it just didn't suit the character of the car. So much so, that it put me off a bit and I remember telling the dealer that I found that quite a dull experience. He asked if I wanted to drive a manual, but the DCT experience had thrown me off and my response was ... 'mehh'. I wasn't really interested anymore, I had already concluded that the M2 wasn't the car for me, that it didn't go as well as it looked. But when I went back a week later to drive a manual it was a totally different experience - the car was much more fun, engaging, and rewarding to drive, basically the car I was expecting to drive in the first place. One of the things that stood out most on the manual test drive was that I got a really good sensation of how fast I was going, which I didn't get in the DCT. Not sure why that was, i wonder if the ratios are very different in the 6MT compared to the DCT

I know that looks like quite a negative assessment of the DCT, but it wasn't intended to be. I do like auto boxes generally (in larger cars or small city runabouts), and this was a good one, but to me personally it just wasn't a good match for the rest of the car

Interesting. The shift action in mine manages to be both rubbery and notchy in the first 3 gears. Particularly if it’s cold

It feels so chuck-able that it'd be a shame to have one that wasn't a manual to complete the experience.

I always think cars with only two pedals feel more relaxing to drive and it changes the overall feel of the car a fair bit. I'd go for the Manual gearbox in the M2 for sure, because I enjoy swapping cogs and pushing a clutch far more than using paddles.
