I believe it's a factory extra on pre LCI models and standard on LCI models, I presume you're talking about the multi function display dash.
Hi thanks for that, yes I am talking about the digital dash that changes colors when the driving mode is changed etc, here is a youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGaHRjfInu4Edited by cerb4.5lee on Friday 21st July 10:21
Thanks,

You need an LCI car to guarantee having it, pre LCI it was an option like said above.
Regarding LCI there was a period of late 2014/early 2015 where both pre-LCI and LCI cars were being built when nosing over RealOEM.
This is a quirk of RealOEM - there isn't a production overlap.Regarding LCI there was a period of late 2014/early 2015 where both pre-LCI and LCI cars were being built when nosing over RealOEM.

The sport dials look like they've been designed by a 6 year old!

Its a missed opportunity. It does nothing the regular display doesn't do - it displays no additional information it just arranges it differently. It is a shame they didn't do what Audi did and have proper high res navigation on it or something.
If you have the HUD though it makes it pretty much redundant in one stroke (and with a little bit of coding) can display more information not enabled from factory.Brutally I rarely have an overriding reason to look at the actual dash in day to day driving.
I loved the digital dash on my 640GC, I felt it was a much better improvement over the older dash that I had on my older 650 (E63). I felt that the E63 style dash was dated and was one of the reasons I didn't take to an older X6 when I had the chance to own it.
I love the mix of digital dash and hud, I love the red dash of the sport modes and the gentle blue dash for ecopro, for me having the digital dash/hud is now a must.

I've got the digi dash and HUD on my new 440i and didn't have either on my 640d.
I like both, but prefer the Comfort screen on the dash over Sport.
I really don't get the Audi dash unless you are in the TT or R8 as to me it's repetition of the main MMI screen which is odd.
One thing I will say is that I would prefer more configuration over the digi screen, but it's first gen for BMW so no doubt it will improve.
The digi dash has lots of little cool features that I am only starting to notice now - like if in ECO PRO (rarely use) it will tell you what type of junction or road is coming up even with sat nav not on to allow you to anticipate it.

The normal dash in my X5 does the junction anticipation thingy I like both, but prefer the Comfort screen on the dash over Sport.

The normal and comfort dials look ok, it's simply the sport
