I definately will get to know the vehicle first. No point in putting your head in your hands and crying after the event.
That advice would have been useful to that idiot in a F430 Scuderia yesterday 1 he driving it off the bat then totally destroyed in a fireball. Apparently only doing 70mph on a wet M way.... bullst more like 170mph+

Hope you're enjoying the car OP.

I just put mine in for a major service and front brakes yeaterday, first time I haven't been covered by service pack which expired at 50k. Total cost £2k so not trivial but not as eye-watering as one might expect. Am 65k miles into mine now and it's just brilliant. Up at 5am for a 165 mile drive and that excitement about jumping in the car and smashing up some A roads still hasn't worn off.

Today is the big day fellas.

Breakfast first! No point in rushing things. Then off to train station with my brother heading down south to pick up the beast.

Insurance - done! Bank transfer - ready! Road tax - pending! Driver - ecstatic! Brother - woke up late!! Typical....

I feel like a kid at Christmas!! Wish me luck guys. Pics to follow.
Dash cam I use in the M is a Transcend Drive Pro 100; only 50£ but great footage , easy to use and 2 year warranty.
Car's not a daily , so not so bothered about discrete. It's not that small.

Blackvue do a more complex camera , front and rear and apart from their later ones, they are much more discrete.

Mate of mine installs a lot of "target blues" on a lot of fast/super cars.
They pick up on Tetra so will do cop cars etc. but not camera vans.
Not sure what solutions he has for those, but for the camera detectors my father tried several . I tested them to and only Cheetah Brand was picking up nearly all camera locations I knew.
Other brands were useless !

Not trying to put the OP off what is obviously a dream car for him, but I've recently had a really bad experience buying an F10 M5 through a BMW main dealer network.

I bought what I believed was a one owner late plate car with 3500 miles. The dealer was almost 300 miles away so no chance to properly inspect car, went down and picked it up. On way back thought the car wasn't right, in particular it was making a noise. Took it straight to my local dealer when I got home and found that it needed two new wheel bearings. This didn't sort it completely, it was still making a noise, probably from the differential, pulled to the left and had quite a heavy vibration at speed. My dealer noted that the service record showed it had needed a full set of brake pads, brake fluid change, a new rear tyre and battery charging at it's pre-sale check!

I rejected the car and eventually got my money back, but I also discovered the car had belonged to a small car hire company, not BMW "management" as was claimed, and that someone else had bought it and rejected it before me. This from a large main dealer network, who clearly couldn't give a monkeys about what they sold, so long they could get it off their forecourt no questions asked.

BMW "Approved Used Cars", what a joke. redcard (BMW weren't in the slightest bit interested when it was drawn to their attention)

So be very careful what you're doing with that car because the one I bought had clearly just spent it's entire 3500 miles on the track.

ranting

Edited to add: It was also a YJ plate. I think that's where BMW register a lot of their "management" cars

Do you still have the car or did you reject it? It sounds rather similar to my car (pre-sale service items and a YJ plate) which, although hasn't given me any reason for concern so far, now has me wondering if it's the car you're talking about and you got rid of it!

What's the issue?
It's fully OEM warranty those parts replaced

I'm guessing you are not the sort of individual who will own it 10 years down the line in which case it's someone's else's problem.

You're correct, of course. I'm more worried about how I missed things like that during the purchase, if somehow it's the same car.

Hi tom, my mistake it was a YK plate! I think you bought yours before me actually. Anyway, meant to drop you a line earlier, big thanks for the use of your app on M5 prices, a real lifesaver and hugely useful in finding a car.

Hi Guys,

Sorry I been busy with Birthday, Family, car etc.

I wanted to report that the car is absolutely immaculate. The interior is like new. The exterior with the machine polish is gleaming. All minor chips scratches have been taken care of. It looks like brand new to be honest. Very pleased.

The car drives absolutely amazing!! What a car! It has two personalities. A refined family saloon and in an instant a supercar killer. Awesome. I can't take the smile off my face.

Pics are coming soon after the car goes in for full detail.

I was considering ppf protection on bonnet, bumper, wings, wing mirrors and front side of roof. Maybe xpel or the 3m scotch (I think it's called that) what do you guys think? Is it worth it? How does it look long term? Got one quote for £1500 ex VAT

Is it better off getting ceramic coating?

I hear the Cheetah is only compatible with windows. I only have Apple laptop, desktop etc. Dont really fancy using the office pc for this...

Also I can not find the info anywhere.. has the cheetah c500 got a battery so it can be used without cable and mounted. I assume it should..

How big are they? I want it to be discreet.

Ps M5 is an absolute beast!! I thought the e46 M3 was quick!! Private plates on order and once log book is in it will be transfered. Cant wait to have it all sorted and polished and waxed to perfection!

Lol

The E46 M3 is 216bhp/tonne
The F10 M5 lowest power output is 295bhp/tonne. Close to the magic 300 (competition pack is 303bhp/tonne).

200bhp/tonne is a very very fast road car and frankly you are not going to get much quicker for the road.
That said a TVR Cerbera 4.5 is 377bhp/tonne and the 4.2 32bhp / tonne. So don't try to beat one of these they will destroy you.

I have the Blackvue 650S it's been in all my "M" cars no problems, I have it in my 2017 M3 CP now.

A guy who lives by me has a 2014 M5, it seems huge next to my M3 and he does look down on mine as if it's the slower little bro wink

It's a C550 Cheetah, the 2016/2017 Auto Express award winning one. I took it for a run this morning, picks up on everything by me.
No Mac Compatibility though.
Runs from cigarette lighter, if it has an internal battery it would be only for back up.
A gadgets go, visibly it's discrete. But provides a lot of info, I think I'd find that a pain.
Picture is next to Mac Magic Mouse.

Given that you could get the front-end resprayed and refinished for less than 1500 if it needed it, I'd say it's probably not worth getting PPF.

Don't worry if you see a Cerbera on the private road you will walk away from one not the other way round...

Indeed 560hp is not to be trifled with, the F10 is ballistic from 80mph-140mph stupidly fast, at those speeds power counts not pwr/weight.
