Hi all,

I jumped on board the N54 train 3 months ago, getting myself a 2007 335i AT M-Sport, it's been fantastic and certainly puts a smile on my face!

However I had one criticism of the car which was a slight delay when applying throttle. I'd put my foot down and there would seem to be 1/2 second delay before the engine responded, not massive I know but definitely noticeable.

I had my car in at BMW to sort out the hydro pump this week and at the same time they've given it the latest updates, it feels completely different now, incredibly responsive and the power is there instantly when I need it!

So for anyone else feeling that hesitation it's well worth a punt taking it to your local BMW garage and asking for the latest updates.

Next stop JB4 + DCI...

It might not be the updates, it may just be that the self learning throttle adaption has been reset during the update as thats a common (usually temporary depending on how you drive) fix for throttle lag

Potentially, I read that the delay/hesitation from the 'learning' is due to the gearbox starting to go, the gearbox in mine is a year old so wouldn't have thought there would be an issue there!

Enjoy. The JB4 is superb. Make sure you get the USB cable and route it in to your glovebox so you can cock about with the JB4 phone app etc.

I am very excited about it, I've resisted fast cars and modifications for a long time now so my inner teenager is rather happy!

Did you import yours from America?

Don't bother with JB4 it's old tech

Get yourself a cheap android tablet/phone and Dcan cable then use MHD and flash it yourself!

I'd say about 5 weeks into my ownership, something felt wrong with the car. It just wasn't as responsive.

I did the throttle adaption reset, as described on E 90 Post (thought not sure if it's same link you've just seen, above) and car felt different immediately. Probably better than it was before the issue.
I've no idea why it started to feel wrong. Car was just over 5 years and 60k miles at the time.

I hit a rock in the road, 8 weeks into ownership. Needed a brand new DCT and whilst in the garage car asked for all the latest updates.
I'd say DCT performed better still, but it was the manual throttle adaption change that I did myself that made biggest difference.

I moved to a M3 last year, so I appreciate that throttle response on cars with turbos is not as good. But I'd still look back and say 335i was very responsive, cos of the sheer power.
Only quirk I had and it always happened at this one junction, was sometimes the DCT in D mode was changing late from 2nd to 1st as I was ready to take off, so there was this momentary dead spot as I hit throttle. Solved by doing that particular change myself.
I drove a lot in sport mode, so always ready for manual changes with stick wink

Enjoy your car, i sure did smile

Mine was : 335i N54, 2009 DCT.

OP; my 2c, skip the JB4 and use MHD.

One is a piggyback, the other is a flash of the OEM ECU.

MHD are now leading the N54 (and N55 beta) tuning and unless you get into serious tuning and modding, you won't need some of the JB4 features.

Can also be done from a cheap tablet/your phone, etc.

All IMHO.

Yeah - imported from the US.

Consider what the guys are saying about MHD though too as that might be better. Join the forums on n54tuning.com as that's a great resource.

I've still got the 335i but don't use it anymore. I ended up with 9 points in a very short space of time as it was so effortless between 30mph and daft speeds.

Another vote for MHD here.

You can also flash the standard auto box with MHD its called a xHP flash or something. Heard of great results.
