is this thread still active, just stumbled across it as one does, some interesting comments, I am on my 3rd current gen 6 series and so far so good, I am guessing most of these cars are financed so does depreciation really matter ??

Here is my last one, which was replaced with an identical like for like due to some after sales issues

I was reading about your woes on the other forum.

Well done for getting a positive result in the end !

I am thinking about a replacement 4 door car but all options seem to lead back to an M6 GC !

It has Pirellis on the rear which break traction far too easily in the dry, are Michelin Pilot Sport the recommended replacements??
Get Pilot Sport 4 S (NOT Plot Sport 4) if you can find them, otherwise Pilot Super Sport.
Another big vote from me for Michelin Pilot SS. My M6 is more lively at the back than my previous M5 and I am sure the main reason is the tyres (M6 has Pirellis).

Very nice - what extra toys did you get?

Mine has heated and cooled seats which I love but whoever specced the car from new opted for some silly electric blinds AND sun protection glass confused and didn't add the heated steering wheel doh!

Two months in and I'm really enjoying this car. It has Pirellis on the rear which break traction far too easily in the dry, are Michelin Pilot Sport the recommended replacements??
oi, oi, i spec'd blinds and sun protection as i cant stand blanked off plastic trim, got heated steering too !!

BMW were surprisingly good about it to the point that it didnt take much effort on my part, then again they really messed up and demonstrated that whilst they are happy to sell you these high end products the support is certainly lacking !!. At the end of the day the dealer was negligent after £30ks worth of repairs which were below par and BMW not being able to supply the right parts. Oddly when my new one came through it had the parts that my old one required which BMW could not source. Clear breakdown between production & aftersales, oh well !!

So, after almost a month of ownership, things to note relative to the f10 m5:
Frameless doors are cool, but driver side window sometimes has a brain fart and won’t go up due to sensor for anit-trap. Could be the control unit.
Boot release button doesn’t lift the boot up, just unlocks (supposed to lift it)
Headlight on passenger side has a little bit of condensation - probably a bulb replaced and not done in a controlled environment so moisture inside.
And the aircon compressor seems to be a bit asthmatic.

So..... tomorrow it’s visiting BMW specialist cars at Stevenage (who have looked after every m car for me) to have all these things remedied because it’s an approved used car.

Other than that, it’s bloody epic.

I still really like mine, As mentioned at the top of the post, I used to have a 997 911, which I haven't missed once to be honest, well maybe once, but hardly at all.

Mine has no niggles to speak of really, that said, it will never be without a warranty!

Maybe the anti trap wire in the seal above the window?

It's only opened by a spring, in cooler weather it does not open, when warmer it usually does.

Might not be that simple, the lights are LEDs and should never be opened.

There was a very common fault with the condenser, they fail and all the refrigerant leaks out. It's a common component with the F10 and there were 1000's on back order at one point.

All easy to fixes bar the headlight - are BMW still refusing to replace these under warranty? There was a thread in here at one point.

Not sure why it posted twice. Sorry about that.

As regards all the feedback, I agree with all points made and BMW will be sorting them all out tomorrow.

Drove it again today. It remains epic

How much of a "must have " is the competition pack on these cars

I know on the f10 m5 the CP provides a considerable and worthwhile enhancement over the standard car but from my reading the standard m6GC gets pretty glowing reviews.......

The reason I ask is because there seem to be so fee CP cars to choose from that I don't want to bog myself.down with the spec unless it adds something tangible and delicious to the seemingly already excellent pacakage

I think the CP adds about 15 BHP only so I figured less than 3% increase is neither here nor there with 552 BHP as standard. Perhaps more important is to get the extras you want which will enhance the time you spend in the car far more than the marginal power increase.

On mine I really like the soft close doors and cooled seats, the speed limit display is helpful (it also adds the no overtaking symbol too when appropriate, don't know yet if any others come up). The right colour interior is going to make a massive difference and what I saved on a non CP I put towards a new number plate smilesmile

That looks great. Did you fill the holes from the surround to fit your plate, or did you take to a bodyshop?

At the moment the holes are still there but being black they tend to blend in unless they get filled with white polish residue so that's best avoided. Haven't decided whether to fill them permanently for reasons of next owner etc but at least I've also saved a bit of weight by ditching the plastic surroundsmile

Perhaps you could get some little colour coded rubber bungs that would be easy to extract if you sold the car?
