Cool reg!

I've had the exhaust changed and opted for satin black tips (saves me polishing the chrome).
That's funny, as I was thinking about swapping my black (comp pack) exhaust tips for chrome! (decided against it for now, as it's the only thing that marks mine out as a competition!

Anyway, some websites say non Comps are faster in real life than Comps??
hehe That's a new one!

I've heard some reviews saying the performance increase of the Comps not being that noticeable (unless you drive them back to back), but I've never heard of them being slower.

Have you got any links? - I'd be interested to read more..
I’ve driven both in coupe forms and comp pack is faster, sharper and more agile
Well. This is a direct comparison between MGGC Comp vs non Comp on Zeperf. At rolling race speed, non Comp might have a slight advantage: https://zeperfs.com/en/duel6134-4585.htm please use the attached and looks at 0-120 and 40-120 etc. Of course the comp would be sharper and more agile in corners

0-160 Comp is quicker
0-200 Comp is quicker
...but 0-180, non-comp is quicker by half a second. hehe

If you think about it, that makes no sense whatsoever. (not having a go at you)
For that to be accurate and representative, the non-comp would have to have a 'Fast & Furious' type NOS boost just after hitting 160, but then suddenly hit increased wind resistance around 190 for the comp to take the lead again.

As has been said, the spurious results (especially with such slim margins) will be down to other variables like driver, tyres etc.

We know that, in isolation, with all else equal, and as a very generalistic statement, more power/torque = faster.

(yes, I know sometimes bigger turbos will give more power at the expense of initial response, which can effect early acceleration times making a car seem slower initially, but I'm speaking generally and talking about big accelerations 0-100mph+

Look Zeperf is verified average, they may be wrong I don’t know. And I am not biased against M6GC Comp because I own one myself and I would always pick it over non Comp.

I have noticed the same phenomenon with F10 M5 vs F10 M5 Comp. I may be wrong I believe the faster 0-100kph is still for non Comp F90 M5 compared to F90 M5. I might be wrong

My M6GCCP (600) is the first car I’ve had that I’m careful how much right foot I apply. I say this after many miles in a F10 M5CP (575). Same tyres, but the M6 easily overwhelms its rears compared to the M5. Given std M6 has the same? M5CP engine, my view the M6CP has notably more power. However I do accept engine to engine manufacturing differences may accentuate these differences.

Have you tried Michelin pilot Sport 4 305/30/20 for the rear. It is a straight fit onto the factory 20” rim.

Who cares.

Whos ran a stock M5 or M6 on a rolling road? I hear some make over 600bhp?

Are people with M6s still servicing them at BMW or specialist?

I'll stick to BMW dealer for as long as I keep the warranty cover (i.e. for ever).

I don't know whether it's mandatory or not, but for 'peace of mind' I'll do it anyway.

(although I'm well aware that in a lot of cases, a specialist can be better than a main dealer for servicing)

BMW for: Warranty + service and maintenance + MOT's.

The only thing i don't use BMW for is tyres as my friend owns a tyre shop.

yikes

Sorry to see that. frown

On the plus side, I initially thought it was milk/cream/ice-cream, so paint is actually better than that (no lasting smells hopefully)

I had the guardian angels at Auto Protek fix it.

It made me laugh when I turned up tonthe location. Its a plush Manor estate. There were Ferraris, Mclarens and Astons everywhere. I gulped at the thought of the cost. They actually were so good value.

Auto Protek were just up the road from me and after a quick call they insisted I drive up and leave the car with them whilst the paint was wet.

Anyway. 4 hours later. I need new mats but that's a given.

Lucky boy, all good to go. Remember NO more paint tins in your car.

oh crap I always imagine this is going to happen when I buy paint but so far it never has to me, seems my fears are well founded.

Did the lid just pop off or did it get thrown violently around the car as you were exploring the limits of traction? Either way bad day.

A work acquaintance many years ago told me how a tin of paint he was holding just exploded in a lift and the paint went all over a woman's dress. She wasn't happy and less so when he lifted the hem of her dress up high to catch the paint. I'm sure this is where my fears come from!!

Glad it's been sorted without too much pain

Annoyingly I was driving slow.

It fell over as I turned right at a set of lights. The paint was on the passenger floor well. Anyway. Turned right and the lid BURST open.

I genuinely thought it was time to sell the car as I drove home.

Thought I’d share a small (but effective biggrin ) mod I made to the car this weekend (in case anyone else fancies doing similar)

I’ve always loved 4-seater cars, and if I was ever speccing a Range Rover or a Rolls Royce Phantom, I’d be very tempted to tick the 4 seater option (despite the reduced practicality).
It’s one of the (many) things I loved about the M6GC, as it is practically a 4-seater, especially when the armrest is down (which, on my car, is basically all the time).

But the one thing that annoyed me about the rear of the M6 GC when the armrest is down, is the black plastic in the cubby hole – it just stands out like a sore thumb against the otherwise plush rear area…

... so I decided to do something about it.

I thought I would just contact any car trimmer / upholsterer, send them my template and have them cut it for me, or even just buy a section of leather from them and do it myself.
I thought this would be the easy bit. I was entirely wrong. grumpy

Some companies I contacted just ignored me.
A few I contacted basically just said they weren’t interested in helping, even before talking price (I basically would have been happy to pay whatever it cost)
After contacting one firm, and being nonplussed by the response, I checked out the google reviews for his business and spotted this one:

Exactly how I felt.irked

A few I contacted offered to sell me a complete hide, which I thought would be very wasteful, as all I needed was piece about the size of an A4 sheet of paper.
The only place I got a decent, helpful response was from a chap called Jake at UK Hide, who, after discussing options with him, suggested I try and source a used part on eBay (but to come back to him if I couldn’t).

So off to ebay I went…type ...and found this for £40 including delivery.

Contacted them to check the size (to check it was big enough to cut out the patch I needed).
Along with a quick and positive reply, came an offer to buy it for £35.99! At that money, it was totally worth a punt even if it didn't work out.
I (virtually) snatched their hand off!

When it arrived, I was a bit concerned about colour match (Maybe a subtle difference between Silverstone vs Silverstone II possibly?) and it was a little grubby.

But when I put it in the car the colour match was far closer than I first thought

Also, the grain was far more prominent in the sourced part, but when put together it was hardly noticeable (especially as the cubby hole is in a recess so hides any subtle shade/texture difference)

Also, it’s basically the same contrast as the seat finisher on the back of the front seats…

So the first job was to cut out a template in paper....version 3 finally got it right – here's the final template in position…

Sourced extra thin Velcro from ebay (£12), white for the leather part, and black for the car (so that it won’t be noticeable if the leather has to be removed for the ski hatch etc). Here's the black velcro in position - almost invisible.

Next job was to clean up the part (using the colour matched leather care kit that came with the car), and then separate the leather from the part.

...and then cut out the shape from the leather using the template:

Quick colour match test now that the leather panel had been cleaned and conditioned - pretty good.

Fitted in place.

Job done. thumbup
