Isn’t it already for sale? At least on the Belgian BMW website, the X3 M40 is available and fully configurable.

I'd want a weekend test drive before putting money down.

If it's anything like the old one it'll be a turd.

The new X3 M40i (2018)seems to be a really powerful machine. On the autobahn/highway (straight-line) the performance was great...

Dunno, went in a 2016 model and it was a turd imo.
Felt more like a Defender 90, than a premium suv, and was less comfy.

It seems stiff suspension and rft in these taller cars accentuates the poor ride and transverse jiggles.

Variable dampers make a huge difference - I agree, the standard M suspension can be a bit harsh.

It's very different to my old Defender (green 'company car').

In my opinion the new X3 M40i is a leap in performance.
The test mule looked really great at top speed...

Yes, it’s faster, but it’s not a leap. It’s 0.4 seconds faster to 60 and 3mph top speed than mine. That’s an incremental increase.

The leap may come from the X3M which will have another 70bhp. However, when you have an SUV doing a sub 5 0-60 then I think the gains will be small again.

I was down on the 'interested' list that BMW have and was told you can get them from December onwards.

They've not made any petrol engines in the current shape have they? The mrs like them but the only petrol models available are the old original shape. She doesnt do the miles for a diesel so it's ruled out at the moment. A nice petrol might change things though.

They do petrol engines in other markets, but not the UK. These will be the first petrol models since 2005/6.
